The Republican Party will file federal lawsuits Thursday seeking to overthrow the McCain-Feingold federal campaign finance regulations, Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. "Mike" Duncan revealed Wednesday night at a private dinner with the nation's Republican governors.
The move is considered a slap in the face of the Republican Party's failed 2008 presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who was dramatically outspent by Democrat Barack Obama, and of President Bush, who signed McCain-Feingold into law in 2002.
"We will bring two federal suits tomorrow to strengthen the Republican Party," Mr. Duncan told The Washington Times.
Mr. Duncan said one suit will be filed in the District of Columbia to strike down the soft-money ban that is the central tenet of the McCain-Feingold Act formally known as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002. "Soft money" is largely unrestricted contributions from wealthy individuals, corporations and labor unions.
The second suit will be in a Louisiana federal court to strike down the limits under the law Mr. McCain co-sponsored with Sen. Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Democrat, that control coordination between parties and their candidates.
"It prohibits us from spending over $84,000 in coordination with a candidate in a congressional race," Mr. Duncan said. "That means we have to find some group to raise and spend money but without any coordination" with the candidate, his campaign or the RNC.

It sucks when you create the rules and still lose the game.

THANK YOU GOD!
LLS
And God forgive me for being unkind, such as it is...
....but John McCain got his head handed to him this past campaign because you can write rules about campaigning and money from now until doomsday and somebody will find a way around them.
The simplest solution is to publish the names of everyone who contributes and to whom, make this information widely and readily available and....THAT’S IT!
And since we already do this quite well there’s no need for politicians to stomp all over our free speech rights, much less our own damn party, trying to write ridiculous rules to make a name for themselves at our expense.
It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, John McCain, because of all the issues I had with this man, that McCain/Feingold nonsense insulted me the most. And Bush shouldn’t hadda oughta have signed it because the constitution says, I roughly paraphrase, “congress shall make no rule abridging free speech”....
Now I know Bush was a nice guy and wanted to kick the ball down the road to the Supreme court. And John McCain was all about John McCain. Well John McCain had his chance, yes he did, and good on him.
But he better not be forming no gangs of eight, ten or twelve, or be reaching across the aisle to his “friends” or any other damn nonsense that only culminates with spitting in the face of thou and I.
Thanks for letting me get this off of my chest.
I thought McStain-Feingold already went before the Supremes and they gave it their whole-hearted blessings...?
Closing the primaries is one of the first things we need to do. Especially now that in 2012 Obama will be unopposed and you know democrats will want to cross over and try to give us the weakest candidate running.
That was another thing about McCain’s loss that struck me as justice. Normally he only wants other republicans to disarm, but now he got caught in his own BS. LESSON: ‘you just cant always win with the wrong CANDIDATES even if the other party seems terrible to you.’ Amazing how our voters picked this guy as media ordered and we disagree with him so much.
The other thing was how much power McCain’s CFR gave the media, who used to be McCain buddies, but turned on him (another sweet irony!)
...while they’re at it, file suit against the 17th, so we can reign in the fedgov.
/pet peeve
Serves McCain right. This is a guy that stubbornly insisted on pushing this bill despite adamant opposition from most conservatives and most Republicans. McCain is is such a joke. He reaped exactly what he sowed. I am doubt full is the courts will favor us though. We will see.
And the barn has burned down.
the GOP needs to stop the [pre paid credit cards, in fact make sure they are banned totally.
then find out how much money from overseas came to this country.
Find out how much the likes of Soros really gave and I bet it is millions upon million of money in prepaid cards.
If they do not ban these cards we will only face them again ion 4 years.
Soros paid for this election and this is not what the founding fathers wanted I am sure of that
PLUS... EQUAL REPRESENTATION DURING RECOUNTS.
If the Dems can find missing ballots under a
mattress and they are admitted and counted as
“legal”, Repubs should be allowed to do the same.
OR...
Only military and postmarked ballots can be added
to the recount once it begins.
Conservative “watchdogs” at every recount.
Definitely need to also change these states from open to closed primaries:
Alabama
Arkansas
Georgia
Hawaii
Idaho
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
North Dakota
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
Wisconsin
You are correct, sir, it did in McConnell v. Federal Election Commission, 540 U.S. 93 (2003). Which makes me wonder what they're thinking. Or if they're thinking.
McCain is one of the 60.
Under Grant, Coolidge, and Gingrich. Although the Gingrich party led to Bob Dole, so that might not even be true.
McCain/Bush, one wrote, one signed into law.
I’d like to say good riddance to both of them, but I’ve a feeling McCain’s going to be hanging around awhile just to make conservatives miserable.
wtf??
how are you going to get that through todays congress with all the Dhimms....not to mention the new one in January.
Dreaming
Please do and I hope they can pull it off.
