he New York Times reports that Democratic senator Max Baucus will unveil his nationalized health care proposal today, and (surprise!) it would require all Americans to purchase health insurance:
The plan proposed by Mr. Baucus, Democrat of Montana, would eventually require everyone to have health insurance coverage, with federal subsidies for those who could not otherwise afford it.
Other Democrats with deep experience in health care are also drafting proposals to expand coverage and slow the growth of health costs. These lawmakers include Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Representatives John D. Dingell of Michigan and Pete Stark of California.
The proposals are all broadly compatible with Mr. Obamas campaign promises. But Mr. Baucuss 35,000-word plan would go further than Mr. Obamas in one respect, eventually requiring all people not just children to have coverage. [...]

RomneyCare goes national...
Kennedy - they guy who had Dr. Friedman of Duke, the top neurosurgeon in the US, cancel his Canadian vacation because Teddy needed his services. I’m sure all of us will be able to demand such care with the state.
they are going to take our 401ks and iras! that amounts to 80 billion a year.
they steal it from us one way or the other....”
That’s 80 billion a year——
Only ONE time will that be $80 billion.
Then no one will do any more IRA-401’s, etc.
These idiots are living in never never land”
On that topic:
Neverland in Kalifornia is going to be available soon... Michael Jackson’s name is now off the deed.
Worked so well recently in Hawaii.’
Abrfuptly stopped in less than 8 months!!!
“And if they cant afford it...?”
Surely someone as bright as you Mr. Fitzgerald can understand what is going on. The promises made to the Boomers cannot be fulfilled on Medicare. That means all citizens get insurance by the government and all citizens taxes increase to provide it. Will I be happy to have a free health care plan instead of the excellent family coverage I pay $20,000 a year for? NO! Why? Because my taxes will go up to 60% and pay $50,000 more in taxes.
“And if they have no income? If we have a depression and 25% are unemployed, the 75% working covers the unemployed 25%?”
The productive are taxed and support the non-productive, a trait of socialism. The productive become less productive. I am not saying it’s right, I am saying what is going to occur.
Is there an active Republican party in Montana?
here we go folks- as a Medicair patient myself- I can tell you first hand how bloody awful state-run health care is
“Ghilarducci outlined her plan last year in a paper for the left-liberal Economic Policy Institute, in which she acknowledges that her plan would amount to a tax increase on workers making more than $75,000—considerably less than the $250,000 Barack Obama has said would be his tax-hike cutoff. In addition, workers would be able to pass on only half of their account balances to their heirs; presumably the government would seize the remaining half. (Under current law, 401(k) balances are fully heritable, although they are subject to the income tax.)”

It is just a tax, true. Do you pay your taxes? This one will just slide right in. Put you 17 digit insurance ID # in line 26A to recieve the standard $2000 Health Insurance Deduction. No 17 digit Insurance ID #, no deduction. You just paid $2000 more in taxes.
But of course, if you have no income, you don't pay any taxes. Those poor people will get another "tax rebate" on a tax they never paid, just like the "Earned Income Tax Credit".

whoops. No idea how that happened.
I have no idea, but I sense that the state party system is in disarray. The next GOP chairman needs to address this issue first and foremost, and it needs to be done with the Republican state governors.
To me, this is should be one of the litmus tests of any GOP hopeful, to have their home state party strong and dynamic.
It's staggering like a punchdrunk boxer, waiting for the final sucker punch.
There's still wealth to drag in, before they can finally institute marshal law, and chip everybody. I'd say about two more years of bleeding Americans to the breaking point.
Did you notice that Teddy left MA for treatment when he was diagnosed with cancer? As in all socialist sytems, some people are more equal than others and receive better care outside the system. Of course, he is far too important to go through the same process that the proles do.
I start COBRA in 4 weeks. I cannot afford it. That means unless I have a job with benefits in four weeks I have to cash out my retirement which has lost 70% of its value. Then I have to pay a 10% penalty on it and 28% in taxes on it.
I went from being able to live for 2-3 years if I had to cash out to a little more then 6 months. On a retirement plan I have been saving for 20 years.
I don’t want a handout and I don’t want anyone to pay for me. I want a job.
More like Aldous Huxley meets George Orwell at Lewis Carrol's house to collaborate.
Man, do I hear ya. Hubby is seriously considering going to Iraq for a 1 year hitch to work in HVAC over there. Life is gonna get rocky......Best of luck to you, and prayers up.
