Hold onto your seatbelts: The U.S. Senate race in Alaska may be headed for a photo finish between incumbent GOP Sen. (and convicted felon) Ted Stevens and his Democratic challenger, Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich.
After a count of 28,000 absentee ballots, from all over the 49th state, Stevens' lead of 3,500 votes had been reduced to 971 votes.
State officials expect to count 60,000 absentee votes. They will count an additional 35,000 provisional ballots and challenged ballots next week.

Like manure in a horse stable, the bad news just keeps piling up.
Grief, they even are having absentee issues in Alaska. One thing you can say about Democrats, they are good a fixing elections.
As of moments ago, Begich up by 3 votes. As I’ve said, I’d bet real money we’ve lost MI and AK.
Don’t worry, the Dems will steal it.
But either way, with the Dems at 60, the most important person in the Senate becomes Joe Lieberman, who can vote with the GOP to allow a filibuster, but it also means Snowe and Collins are in an extremely powerful position.
Isn’t this a bit counterintuitive? Wouldn’t you expect absentee ballots in a traditionally Republican state like Alaska to go Republican?
They used to, but they started going the other way in 2000.
I don’t know what to think of this.
I expect them to switch parties in return for power. The committee structure of Congress is the most corrupt aspect of government.
Begich is now up 3.
Minnesota is f***king suspicious. I’d like to violate FR terms of use by stating in graphic detail what should happen to vote thieves.
If they win the GA runoff they could get 60.
I’m less concerned with that number and alleged filibusters (you have RINOs and lack of will jeopardizing that and possible moderate rats who may bolt on an issue or 2) than I am with the number needed to take back control. If the number is 11 it may take until 2014 instead of 2012.
Nah those b***hes won’t switch. And it’s not like they’d be given committee chairs if they did.
