Still more than two months from his inauguration, President-elect Barack Obama has started promoting his policies and naming some of his advisers. And according to one historian, he could be developing a plan to permanently block drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Douglas Brinkley, a noted presidential historian and professor at Rice University in Houston, told viewers of CNNs Nov. 11 Lou Dobbs Tonight how Obama could change ANWRs designation from a National Wildlife Refuge to a National Monument. That power was granted to presidents by the Antiquities Act of 1906, and would not require any approval from Congress.
I think what theyre trying to do is in the Obama administration, start pointing out some clear divot spots where theyre going to deviate from the Bush administration things like Guantanamo, things that, No, we are not going to be for drilling around parks, Brinkley said.

Our Founders and writers of the Constitution made one serious error - which led to very serious consequences:
They did NOT clearly and firmly establish Federal requirements to earn the privilege of the vote - in order to deny the vote to the illiterate, the criminals, the non-productive, the dependent or the insane .

In 2012 President Palin will throw it out and get this nation onto energy independence.

Bill Clinton did it with coal in the west. The escalante something or other. Dems will reinstate the offshore drilling ban too. Don’t worry though they will subsidize all the windmills and solar facilities we can build. /s/

Yes, indeed. Then he vanished and showed up being piloted about in a boat by Sean Penn who was trolling for publicity while pretending to rescue katrina victims.

They could then rename ANWR to “Obama’s Folly.”

Indeed, so we now have enemies of the Republic in charge who are working steadily to assure the collapse of our civilization. They won't be happy until we are in state communal housing with rationed heat and one bicycle to share to get to our assigned slot as a state assigned worker cog.

Unless the Antiquities Act amended the Constitution, it cannot bind subsequent Congresses or Presidents. Thank you. I was going to say that, too.

The President’s power of the EO would overcome any Presidential ban by EO at any time. It won’t be permanent. Nothing secular is sacred forever.

That would be Michael Beschloss, NBC’s official presidential historian, which should tell you all you need to know about him.

Douglas Brinkley is a nob. Any Executive Order made by one president can be equality undo by another president's executive order . Even acts of Congress can be undone by another congress.
Nothings permanent.
Well except bureaucracies./s

If Obama is so smart, how did he come to the conclusion that going into Iraq was a bad thing? Did he have daily briefings from the CIA? No. Did he have daily briefings from the NSA? No. Did he have the intelligence agencies and leaders of all western democracies agreeing with him that Hussein was not a WMD danger to the world while all of them were telling President Bush he was? No. Did he have the 15 countries in the Security Council of the United Nations agreeing with him as they did President Bush that Iraq was a potential danger? No.
In October 2002 he was a bumbling local politician in Illinois. He probably didn't even have accurate readings on his favorite local Chinese restaurant's take out menu.
You simply cannot take the known information in October 2002 and come to any conclusion other than the one that President Bush, VP Cheney, President Clinton, Senator Clinton, Senator Rockefeller, and a list of 75 other senators and 300+ congressmen came to. You cannot find a Karnaugh map or a series of logic gates anywhere on the planet that would have come up with a different scenario.
So how did Obama miss it by so much? His ability to think critically is flawed. To be against the war politically is one thing. To run around saying he was right about Iraq only enhances the laughter from people that can think critically. He was as right as a broken clock being correct twice a day. Nothing to be proud of.
Obama said that one of fourteen U.S. intelligence agencies diverged in it's opinion of the Iraqi threat and that was enough for Obama to claim we shouldn't go into Iraq. I'd like to ask him the converse. If only one in fourteen intelligence agencies said Iraq was a danger, would he have attacked?

He will not allow ANY domestic drilling.
The vote in congress was a sham and a scam.
The left has always had a ‘let them eat cake’ message for the peons.

If Palin starts drilling, then Obamas domestic national brownshirt security force will be sent to Alaska to arrest her. They will whisk her to an undisclosed location for interrogation and safely send her home on Nov 10, 2012. The Premier Obama is just getting started.

Yep. El Presidente can declare ANWAR a National Monument on
leaving office, however, by doing so he can control the amount of land i.e. he could leave the coast line alone and minimize the acreage of land that the ANWAR Monument.
This would shock the Greens and tie Obama’s hands.
However, this would require talking to Gov. Palin and forward thinking in the West Wing, tragically a virtue unused since GW was inaugurated.

We needed to do something about those executive orders a long time ago. As Paul Begalia said, "Stroke of the pen, law of the land, pretty cool."
