Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gives Matt Lauer some news as their interview continues Wednesday on "Today."
If convicted Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is banished from the U.S. Senate, Palin will not seek his seat.
"I'm not planning on it because I think the people of Alaska will best be served with me as their governor," Palin says. "Making sure that we are prudently spending the tax dollars. That we are making sure that our resources are being developed responsibly and ethically. And all those things that are a part of my agenda as governor. I think the people of Alaska appreciate me where I am today as their governor."
"Today" airs at 7 a.m. weekdays on WESH-Channel 2.

Good move Gov. Palin! She is a smart woman
Good!
Who the hell would want to go from popular Governor to junior United States Senator in a heavily-opposite party ruled Senate?
Governor > Senator
Good call. More executive experience for her.
After a term as governor, she will be better qualified for higher office. Once in the Senate, she will be stuck there.
The good old boys in the “Senate” COULDN’T HANDLE Sarah Palin! She’d shoot down their golden goose in a heartbeat.
I never understood why a governor would want to move to the Senate...seems to me like a drop in prestige. There are 50 state governorships, and 100 senate seats. Governors appoint senatorial vacancies, not the other way round.

I don’t know why some people thought exiling her to that swamp was a good idea to begin with.
Send Todd Palin. THAT would drive libs insane. Even better ... send Newt Gingrich.
Couldn't agree more. The Senate is becomming our own politcal Borg.
I was one who thought it would be a good idea to run for Steven’s seat to put her in the loop to get better known to conservatives, to make it easier to raise money and to make herself more familiar to the people of Iowa, NH, and SC. Running for re-election as governor and winning in 2006 will keep her in the forefront in Alaska but will not help her in the lower 48. However, I do agree, with Sarah’s impressive popularity in the GOP, the capability of the Internet to be used to raise huge sums, and the great possibility that the right-wing blogosphere could be put at her disposal to get her message out and keep her name in the news, I could be wrong. In any case, I support Sarah.
Was she live or was it taped-I didn’t see it.
Absolutely 100% right move. Why be 1 of 100, when you can be 1 of 50? How can you present yourself as an outsider if you belong to the world’s most exclusive club? No matter how many times McLame called himself ‘maverick’or forced Sarah to call him one, that label would not stick.
She be better off appointing her Lt. Gov. who lost to Young. He can be her eyes and ears and her surrogate on Capital Hill.

Good ... to be one of 100 in an emasculated minority is no career move. Keep racking up the executive experience. Find opportunities to travel. You and Todd deserve an April in Paris.
It would be dumb for many reasons. She’s on the direct route to the top of the executive branch of government.
GOOD. I see no benefit in trading the governorship for a legislative spot in a minority party, where you just know the Dems would take every opportunity to go after her.
