Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who dipped into his own deep pockets to help finance his presidential bid, has directed $5,000 from his Free and Strong America political action committee to aid the recount effort of Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota.
Mr. Coleman, the Republican incumbent, is locked in a tight race with his Democratic opponent Al Franken. Though the initial vote tally showed Mr. Coleman ahead by 725 votes, as counties double checked their figures over the last week that margin has thinned even more. As of Monday, just over 200 votes separated the two challengers.
The vote totals are expected to be certified by the Minnesota secretary of state on Nov. 18, and an official recount will begin a day later. It could take as long as a month.
The campaigns are already engaged in legal maneuvering to ensure the recount goes smoothly, and they are keeping their teams in place to oversee the process. And with the campaign going into overtime, both sides are collecting more money to fund their efforts. Read more

Mitt Romney is coming to the aid of two fellow Republicans still locked in election battles that could determine the shape of the US Senate, urging his supporters to donate to their campaigns.
Through his Free and Strong America political action committee, Romney is featuring Senators Saxby Chambliss of Georgia and Norm Coleman of Minnesota.
Chambliss faces a runoff next month with Democrat Jim Martin, after neither won a majority in a three-way race last week.

The last thing this world needs is a moronic cretin like AlFrankenstein in office.
The RATS are trying to steal this election !!
Mitt’s a good guy.
He does put country first.
I don’t see McPain doing anything to help ... or some of the other well heeled Republicans ... .
John McCain is going to GA to help Chambliss, and now Romney. He might as well call in Bill Clinton.
McCain and Romney are both unpopular in GA. I don’t see how either will help Chambliss get elected.
I agree. I am donating money to Mitt’s pac and to GOPtrust. That is our voice. The only GOP that represents us is Jeff Sessions, Richard Shelby, Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe.
I don’t know...... I kind of like Mitt.... I think he would have been better than McCain, frankly, but that’s water under the bridge.....
Based on all this recount hysteria producing different results, wouldn’t it make sense to recount the votes in all the states?
This is such a blatant move to steal this election for S. Smalley.
I’m sorry one $5,000 donation to a republican does not make Romney a good guy, it doesn’t make him conservative, and it doesn’t make him Presidential material.
We're living in an upside down world!
I know, he’s a horrible person! Horrible! String him up!
Based on the last article I read, they keep finding votes for Franken, but none for Coleman.
Hmmmm, must be Frankenvotes brought back from the dead.
He sure couldn’t have been any worse than McCain. Sarah did a great job punching in a straight jacket. I don’t think Romney would have made her wear a straight jacket. I actually started to warm up to him when he was the only one who wasn’t afraid to tell the truth about McVain in the primaries.
Mitt is a decent guy. I was a Tancredo guy and when Tom stepped out of the race aned backed Mitt, I trusted Tancredo.
Romney is taking money from his PAC. His net worth is around a quarter billion dollars.
ASAP
Romney has been very, very active in “Spreading the Money Around” in order to benefit himself in ‘12.
It will be fascinating to see if he runs as a liberal, moderate, or conservative, depending on the prevailing mood of the country at the time! Whether he favors gay marriage or favors traditional marriage, depending on how Prop 8 fares.
Whether he favors Big Dig National Healthcare or not, depending on what Obama has done.
Whether he favors the National Police Force that Obama promises, or whether he is willing to continue just impersonating police officers, as his campaign staff did.
Whether he favors liberal judges, appointing them without regard to party, as he did in Mass., and as Obama will do, or whether he will sense a new wind blowing and change his preferences.
Mitt. More than a Chameleon! [’12 Campaign Tag Line]
Here is how everyone can help with the Coleman recount effort.
1. If you are a Minnesota resident, go to www.mngop.org and donate $50 (individual) or $100 (couple). All state party monies are being directed toward the recount. Moreover, under MN law, you are entitled to a full refund for the amount noted above from the MN Department of Revenue. It will cost you only the 4-6 weeks in cash flow. You will get all of your money back, and help Norm in the process.
2. If you are NOT a Minnesota resident, go to colemanforsenate.com and make a gift. I believe the limit is $2,300 per individual.
The GOP lost the election the day Romney was defeated by McCain in the Florida primary.
It should have been crystal clear that McCain, an inarticulate, 72-year-old short, somewhat sickly looking, uninspiring, boring and anti-conservative candidate Wash-insider never had a prayer.
As an avid Romney supporter, I deluded myself all spring and summer thinking that the Republican powers-that-be must know something that I didn't about potential cross-over voters who would support McCain ..... or something.
In relection, it's astounding to me that GOP leaders, knowing that most Americans desperately wanted an outside-the-beltway bold, fresh foreward thinking dynamic candidate would instead select the EXACT opposite of all those things.
McCain, God love him, represents the worst of inside-the-beltway, Vietnam era and older, good 'ol boy baloney....
Not to beat a dead horse, but Romney was and STILL IS the most able to explain and promote our conservative Republican message... irregardless of how many irrational Romney haters inhabit FreeRepublic.
