Head of U.S. bishops says no compromise on abortion
Reuters ^ | Mon Nov 10, 2008 | Michael Conlon

The head of the U.S. Catholic bishops' group said on Monday that Barack Obama's election as president should be celebrated but he made it clear the church would not compromise its strict stand against abortion.

Obama won solid support from Catholics in last week's election, exit polls indicated, even though the church opposes the view, supported by the Illinois Democratic senator, that a woman has the right to choose whether to have an abortion. The U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 legalized abortion.

Obama's election "is a moment that touches more than our history when a country that once enshrined race slavery in its very constitutional order should come to elect an African- American to the presidency," said Cardinal Francis George of Chicago.

"In this, I truly believe, we must all rejoice," the head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops told the group's semi-annual meeting in Baltimore.

George said the country may have reached a point where "all races are safely within the American consensus." But he voiced concern that Catholics face political pressure when seeking office to compromise on "fundamental Catholic teachings."

The central Christian teaching, George added, was that God became man and "took flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, nine months before Jesus was born in Bethlehem."

"This truth is celebrated in our liturgy because it is branded into our spirit. The common good can never be adequately incarnated in any society when those waiting to be born can be legally killed at choice," he said.

"If the Supreme Court's Dred Scott decision that African- Americans were other people's property and somehow less than persons were still settled constitutional law, Mr. Obama would not be president of the United States," George said, referring to the 1857 decision

I’m sure your pastor means well. And a lot of Catholic priests are no doubt saying the same thing. But in the end, it won’t heal racial injustice to elect a black power bigot to the White House. In the end, racial relations will be worse than they were before.

Martin Luther King had the right idea. All men are created equal. The Constitution is, or should be, color blind.

Uh.....OK your Eminence, so what days do I rejoice and what days do I remain indignant? Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for rejoicing that we've made history by electing an African American and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to be alarmed about his abortion policies? Sunday alternates from week to week.

This reminds me of one of those "good news, bad news" jokes, with the Cardinal as the gag teller.

"My brothers and sisters, we have good news and bad news! First the good news; we've elected an African American to the White House. Now the bad news; he's a killer!" (Laughs all round)

Except it's no laughing matter.

You shall not covet . . . anything that is your neighbor's. . . . You shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's.

The tenth commandment requires that envy be banished from the human heart. When the prophet Nathan wanted to spur King David to repentance, he told him the story about the poor man who had only one ewe lamb that he treated like his own daughter and the rich man who, despite the great number of his flocks, envied the poor man and ended by stealing his lamb. Envy can lead to the worst crimes. "Through the devil's envy death entered the world":

We fight one another, and envy arms us against one another. . . . If everyone strives to unsettle the Body of Christ, where shall we end up? We are engaged in making Christ's Body a corpse. . . . We declare ourselves members of one and the same organism, yet we devour one another like beasts.

Just a prophecy about Barak's "spreading the wealth" plan. You'd think the Bishop would have heard it before since it's from his catechism. The Bishop calls it "social justice"; God forbids it.

Hey Bishop: "Thou shalt not"; look it up.

My Dear Bishop,

Throughout human history (including today), slavery has been the norm... emancipation is unique. Our ancestors fought and bled to spread the blessings of liberty to all citizens. I will not apologize for the history of this great country and I will not celebrate the elevation of a marxist baby-killer solely based on the color of his skin.

It’s time that you and your fellow conferees learned real American history. Who was it that took advantage of Lincoln’s death by plundering the post-war South and made such disastrous rulings as Dred Scott possible? Who was it that thought blacks being viewed as 3/5 of a person was a good thing? Who was it that sought to block the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and nearly every piece of emancipating legislation over the last hundred years? Who is it that champions a counter-culture of low achievement and welfare dependency—punishing those who “sell out to the man”? Who is it that celebrates and protects at all costs the Supreme Court decision that legalized infanticide in this country—as a reminder, this holocaust intentionally targets “inferior” peoples (races)?

Who is it who has been rewarded for their past and current racism with the reins of government with the help of Catholic voters?

In all of the above, the correct answer is the Democratic Party. Please learn... and then educate the flock before we truly repeat the mistakes of the past.

No, I respectfully disagree. Nothing about him should be celebrated. SLAVERY? Obama is the ultimate slave-master, supporting the murder of the unborn.

This bishop better the ultra-liberal, racist archbishop of Atlanta that democratic abortion politics remains the biggest killer internationally after Mao and the environmental movement: murdering more worldwide than Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot combined.

Not suprising to me... when considering how far we have fallen since the Vatican II promulgations that the Modernists foisted upon the Catholic world. How many Traditionalists do you know? The Church is overrun with Modernist liberals, and heritics of every stripe... all the way up the heirarchy... just as Our Blessed Virgin Mother fortold at Fatima. No, this is not a surprise to me, but rather the fullfillment of prophecy for reason of disobediance.

Naturally the MSM and the pollsters must know this. So the motive is to push propaganda that Catholics support Obama, when nothing could be further from the truth. I hope the Evangelicals know this to be so. Faithful Catholics would rather die before voting in a barbarian such as is Barak Obama.

The tragedy of abortion is far worse. Genocide trumps enslavement. Shedding the blood of the innocent is a sin that cries to Heaven for vengeance.

NO!!! I cannot think of one thing, however small, one policy proposal, one position of principle, one suggestion for future action, on which barak hussein 0bama is anything other than dead wrong.

0bama = abortion

Antisocial Conservatives
American Spectator, November 10, 2008
BY W. James Antle, III
FR POSTED Monday, Nov 10, 2008

EXCERPT It was only a matter of time. First Sarah Palin and the Wasilla hillbillies were charged with spending John McCain's political capital faster than they could max out credit cards at Neiman Marcus.

Now blame for the Republican electoral debacle has been extended to all the rubes who are said to populate the religious right.

In his post-election column for the National Post, David Frum counseled Republicans to embrace "a future that is less overtly religious, less negligent with policy, and less polarizing on social issues," a move that will "involve painful change" on such issues as abortion. "Yessir, Master Dave, we hear and obey (genuflect and bow low). BTW, Dave, how do you like this new Republican Party logo?"

"Trust me Dave, this is NOT religious. This is 'social engineering.' Just think of it as adult abortion, Dave baby."

"Remember, Dave....Christ was crucified for saying inconvenient things people didn't want to hear."

Pretty much the same here in the Manchester, NH diocese. Our new Senator Shaheen is a BIG abortion supporter yet our Child-molesting enabler Bishop McCormack is a BIG fan of hers. Our Jesuit pastor and his Holy Cross sidekicks who come up to say an occasional Sunday Mass - made clear that earth worship came before any pro-life concerns. Not surprising the state and all counties went ‘blue’. Cardinal George in Chicago is just the latest in a history of weak episcopacy there. Things don’t look like they will get much better any time soon.

The tragedy of slavery is effectively completely over.

A naive thought, at best.

We are witnessing the disastrous results of these disturbed conservative-haters and abortion worshippers---the pukeneos---let loose on our political system.

Course, it's hard for dumbheaded nincompoopneos to figure it out, so let's be clear: David Frum, Michael Gerson, David Brooks, little Billy Kristol and his Daddy, Dumbo Douglas Feith, Rooty Ghouliani, Lieberman, and all the disgusting pukeneo cabal better stay away....far away.

The pukes better not get anywhere near the Repub party, or try influencing the leadership. These termites have been eating away at the party structure far too long..... The pukes stupid political strategy supported loser after loser----McCain, Ghouliani, Mehlman, Martinez.......the list goes on and on.

The nincompooneos kicked so/cons to the curb, and are obsessed with religious cleansing.

Worst of all, the stupeneos led us over a cliff into Iraq......transferring massive amount of US wealth into Mideast hellholes (and into the pockets of war profiteers). Chief Puke, Richard Perle, is actually going into the oil business in Iraq-----thanks to blood spilled by young Americans, and his cut of trillions of US tax dollars.

Pukeneos also foisted amnesty on the US, saddling us with millions of drug runners and criminals undermining US ntl security........and conniving Third World lowlifes using multiple stolen identities who have destroyed our economy.

Now, if the conservative-hating pukes don't like the religions of the Republican party----that's too frickin' bad.

Let all Republican bow our heads in prayer. AMEN.

And on and on it goes. I couldn’t believe the way they are pushing “endangered species” nonsense on children in our attached Catholic school.

Not a Sunday goes by we don’t hear about “social justice.”

But silence on Life. And on Sin.
It’s feel-good “God loves you” stuff.
