Don't Do As Arnold Say Or Does (Big Government Republicanism Has No Future Alert)
Orange County Register ^ | 11/11/2008 | Orange County Register Editorial

Gov. Schwarzenegger first ran for office during the 2003 recall election as a fiscal conservative and social moderate, but he quickly abandoned any pretense of fiscal restraint. He has expanded government and has proposed far-reaching health care programs and other measures. His current plan is to "fix" the state's massive and intractable budget deficit by dramatically raising sales taxes and expanding the sales tax to additional services. This governor has put the state in a precarious position with his debt spending, which really is nothing more than a tax on our grandchildren. Yet the California GOP, under his ostensible leadership, is in its worse shape ever.

And this is the model? Instead of listening to his big-government hokum, the GOP needs to remember its limited-government roots. That's the real blueprint for future success.

Big Government Republicanism has no future. Red Arnold's advice to the Republican Party is a prescription for permanent minority status. Its time to get back for real - to the GOP's limited government philosophy.

At least the right-leaning OC Register sees through Arnold’s BS. I was excited about Arnold when he knocked off Gray Davis, but it’s time for him to go. The CA GOP needs and deserves a better leader.

The Republican Party cannot go in opposite directions at once. It needs to start keeping faith with social conservatives and stop acquiescing to social liberals.

It also needs to stop spending so much, and the way to accomplish that is to privatize things currently run by the government. It is silly for some to contend that the government can be gigantic and run everything, yet somehow be made less expensive.

Privatization should be brought up to every Republican politicians every week.

I like the terminology ‘warthog from hell’. We do know who the real “girlie man” is now.

He’s going to form his own party very soon. Something that will ally him closer to the Left. Probably they’ll call it the Unity Party or something.

Obama is the enemy, not Arnold. We need all the allies we have and can get.

We are at war, internationally and domestically.

Ronald Reagan brought people into the Republican movement - he did not exclude them.

If anyone here thinks they are a self-appointed Chief Priest of conservative political-correctness, they better go see a shrink.

You just don’t get it. Arnold is the enemy. He is just another Rockefeller RINO. He has destroyed the conservative movement in CA. I’d rather have Bustamante or Davis still in office.
