Logic never works on a liberal. It’s like talking to a zombie. All the think about is eating your brains.
I have run into this as well, MrB.
The message I use is that Christ told individuals to help the poor. Christ did not tell people to elect officials who will steal from the rich and give to the poor. Christ wants his work done through individuals, not through anti-Christian gov'ts.
By the way, my observation, and this may not be true in the case of your relative, is that Christians who want the gov't to do God's work, don't do it themselves. Their faith is quite shallow.
Ran across this at another forum:
One Year Supply $5.00 A Week For 2 People
Each week take $5.00 and then buy the specified items for that week. Remember that some weeks will not use all of the $5.00 and some weeks will use more than $5.00. Plan to set aside $5.00 each week regardless. There are also a few weeks you will have nothing to buy, but set aside the money for those weeks as well. By the end of the 52 weeks you will have 700 lbs of wheat, 240 lbs of sugar, 40 lbs of powdered milk, 13 lbs of salt, 10 albs of honey, 5 lbs of peanut butter, 45 cans of tomato soup, 32 cans of mushroom soup, 15 cans of tuna fish, 10 boxes of macaroni and cheese, 500 aspirin, 730 multiple vitamins, 6 lbs of dried yeast, and 6 lbs of shortening. This should sustain 2 people for 1 year.
**Remember to add $5.00 for every additional 2 people in your family. You do not necessarily need to purchase these items in the week listed. If you find the items in week17 on sale, buy them and move the current weeks items to week 17.
This is a basic food storage plan that will sustain life for 1 year. [Purchase a container of water each week.]

Maybe. Since confirming that Obama was the president-elect, after the close of the US stock markets on 11/4, the Dow has dropped a bit over 10%. If McCain had won and this happened, it would be headline news.
What cemented FDR's reputation was WWII. Even Bill Clinton used a war in Yugoslavia to try to get us to "move on" from the impeachment. I have to wonder who Obama will want to make war with, it won't be his islamunist friends.
Clearly, he knows he's got to provide 'pie' to his supporters quickly, that's why he mentioned relief for the auto industry in his talks with Bush yesterday. Can anyone here think of any industry that has anywhere near as high a proportion of African-Americans employed in it at high wages?
That should give us clues as to how he will run the rest of his economic policies. The author of this piece is dead on about the minimum wage, that's the first thing that American socialists use to "cure" what they perceive as the ills of the free market.
Very much a "nail on the head" statement.
Other main reasons for being a "liberal": Free stuff, guilt free abortion policy.
I’d add a reason 6, Obama will implement a carbon tax and trade system that as he promised will bankrupt the coal industry and cause electric rates to skyrocket. The carbon taxes and electric rate increases will further cripple businesses and add to the double digit unemployment that will be the hallmark of Obama’s first and hopefully last term.
“The end of lefist ideas, along with the end of laissez-faire capitalism, might just leave us in a position to recover.”
This first part is correct, the second part is stupid.
Are you a liberal?
Obama Wins, Economys Doomed! (This aint Grampa Dave making this quote!)
Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital and author of The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets, says a big-government Obama administration will lead to an economic collapse on par with the Great Depression.

another vanity, yea.
No. I just pay attention.
Atlas is starting to get antsy.................
“The only ray of sunlight that I can see is that it will be the end of leftist ideas in this country. But it didn’t seem to end them after the depression of the 1930’s. Americans are so completely ignorant about economics, I am not hopeful.”
I hate to disagree, but unfortunately, poverty and depression historically tend to breed more leftist ideas (the downfall of Czarist Russia, the rise of the PRC in China, the rise of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, the rise of Castro in Cuba, are only a few examples of how leftist populist tendencies resonate at times of economic and political crisis).
I would not discount Obama before he gets in - much of what is said leading up to an election is a simple vote grab. Just like John McCain morphed into a completely different man from the sensible, secular, straight-talk machine he once was in order to pander to the right (what a mistake), it seems logical to assume Obama would do the same for the left.
Remember when John McCain made the gas-tax cut promise, and then NEVER mentioned it again after the financial crisis? That’s because he was planning to reneg that promise. Had he been elected, he would have explained that the current dire financial situation cannot allow for the tax break I promised Americans. People say really silly things leading up to an election, I prefer to let them actually start doing things before throwing stones, or fueling alarm.
It serves to note that we have a ridiculous debt, most of which is owned by China and Japan. The last President to run a current account surplus was Bill Clinton. In the Bush years our country has rapidly and systematically dug itself into the deepest debt hole ever known to mankind (a serious blemish to the party of the Gipper). It is a ballpark-ish $400,000 cost for every man, woman, and child in this country. As this money is mostly borrowed, interest only makes this number rise.
The wars, our bloated and failing healthcare system (Medicare/aid which costs every American more money per capita than most countries with fully socialized healthcare, which boggles my mind), our irrational monopoly-prone business sector, trade subsidies and tariffs on a whole gamete of products, and the rampant promotion of consumerism through artificially low interest rates (thank you Greenspan), has devastated this country’s economy. We need less fiscal (government) spending. That means get out of Iraq - or start making Iraq pay the bills themselves (they have a massive current account surplus due to oil revenue - if Maliki wants us there, he can foot the bill).
I believe ‘the depression’, if it is in fact happening, developed under President Bush, after 8 years of Bush policies. Quite frankly, ANYBODY who is the next President will likely have to deal with a deeper depression after our abysmal incumbent. I just hope Barack Obama is not as honest as he is painted out to be, and that he told some pandering white lies on the election trail that he plans on reneging.
I have to wonder who Obama will want to make war with, it won’t be his islamunist friends.
probably those who own our debt
when was McCain ever sensible? I think I must have missed this and I didn’t just join today.
Obama will deepen the mess. The exact character of the mess remains to be seen. Central to it will be stagnation, but we don’t yet know whether it will be stag-inflation or stag-deflation.
“Helicopter Ben” Bernanke is a fan of inflation as a tool. Hey, it’s a way of paying off debts. Trouble is that toilet paper will cost two bucks a roll. Depression is great if you have a job and money (J.P. Morgan while boarding a ship, “Depression? What depression?”) but the trouble is that millions won’t have jobs.
Hah. Touche. I thought John McCain was pretty awesome between 1998-2006, to be honest. He should have gotten the nomination way back when. Sure he’s not perfect (which became increasingly evident in this campaign) but then again neither is my man Ron Paul.
From a previous post on argument I said:
“The rational argument is made so by the elimination of the emotional; unfortunately doing so obviates the role of persuasion, making the rational argument impossible to defend passionately.
Eventually this makes the truthtellers fork in the road the less-traveled.”
