OCALA, Fla. -- The owners of an Ocala business are accused of taking a racist swipe at president-elect Barack Obama. The NAACP of Florida calls the message on the company's marquee "horrific" and "insensitive."

White people live in the ghetto too. And this guy was probably just referring to Obama's white half anyway, in order to avoid a charge of racism of course.

True, my father lived in one as a kid. Ghetto actually means a part of a town or city where you have one ethnic group living together. Here in Pittsburgh, "Squirrel Hill" would be considered a "ghetto," albeit a very upscale, ritzy, well cared for and affluent area of the city since a lot of people of Jewish descent live there. So a ghetto doesn't always mean run down homes and slums. We have others too like "Polish Hill" and "Larimer Avenue" which is heavily Italian.

However, the unofficial definition of a ghetto in many American minds means slums and run down buildings, don't know how that started. It's like here in Pittsburgh, when you say the word, "ignorant," it means being rude isntead of "not knowing any better." It's like a person burps, the other one says, "you're ignorant."

True, it's like when one guy hung a dummy of Sarah Palin in effigy for Halloween, I do think it was his right but if any of us would so something similar say showing a dummy of Barak Obama being chased by a group of Klansmen in a 1960 Ford Galaxie, we'd be all over the news from here to Mars. Agreed, both would be in bad taste, but I know my little thought experiment would be an exercise of double standards.
