What Are Rich People Thinking? (Rich Obama supporters love paying higher taxes)
Newsweek ^ | 11/10/2008 | Daniel Gross

Posted on 11/10/2008 7:17:20 PM PST by tobyhill

For several years, I've been writing about Bushenfreude, the phenomenon of angry yuppies—who've hugely benefited from President Bush's tax cuts—funding angry, populist Democratic campaigns. I've theorized that people who work in financial services and related fields have become so outraged and alienated by the incompetence, crass social conservatism, and repeated insults to the nation's intelligence, of the Bush-era Republican Party, that they're voting with their hearts and heads instead of their wallets.

Last week's election was perhaps Bushenfreude's grandest day. As the campaign entered its final weeks, Barack Obama, who pledged to unite the country, singled out one group of people for ridicule: those making more than $250,000. At his rallies, he would ask for a show of hands of those making less than one-quarter of $1 million per year. Then he'd look around, laugh, and note that those in the virtuous majority would get their taxes cut, while the rich among them would be hit with a tax increase. And yet the exit polls show, the rich—and yes, if you make $250,000 or more you're rich—went for Obama by bigger margins than did the merely well-off. If the exit polls are to be believed, those making $200,000 or more (6 percent of the electorate) voted for Obama 52-46, while McCain won the merely well-off ($100,000 to $150,000 by a 51-48 margin and $150,000 to $200,000 by a 50-48 margin).

The question is - what is the middle class thinking? Obama said $250,000...Biden said $150,000...Richardson said $120,000. It keeps on going down. The middle class will get hit w/ a big tax. Who else is going to pay for Obama's programs?

People don’t pay taxes on their Wealth. People pay taxes on their income. It is not those who are already rich that have to worry about these taxes, it is the people who want to become rich.

Some rich people must have a misdirected sense of guilt. There really is no other way to explain it.

I'll let the “rich” people dispute the credibility of Newsweek. Someone likes paying higher taxes because Obama got elected.

Really rich people, like George Soros, have ways of dodging taxes. It’s the poor suckers with W-2s and 1099s who get stuck.

If Obama’s friends “love” paying taxes so much, why don’t they volunteer to pay more than what is required of them? Fact is, they love to have OTHER people pay taxes while they have their accountants find offshore accounts and trust funds to shield their money from the IRS.

when you have money, you can "invest" in rentals, vacation homes, and deduct the interest... give to charity, buy sports tickets and martini lunches and golf outings for "business" reasons.....you get to deduct a lot of it... .

that's why I don't care what happens to them....

and besides....its the lawyer class that makes that kind of money and we know they want more liberal laws so they can find more reasons to sue someone..

no....since my fellow Americans decided they didn't care about America, maybe its just going it alone and fighting for yourself...forget the greater good...they forgot us.....

They went to the best schools and were brainwashed. However, I predict it will wear off when it hits them hard in the wallet.

You know, if these people wanted to be giving their money to the government, what stopped them? They want people in power that will make them even richer, despite the taxes.

Even more ironic is that the uber-wealthy will hire tax attorneys and CPAs, and will take every measure possible to minimize their tax burden.

The $150k to $200k household already sees 40% or more of their income siphoned off by government - federal, state, local, property taxes, and they often have payrolls to meet and college tuition to pay.

Newsweek admits that higher taxes are to come and people are expected to embrace them. These idiots that claim they don't mind higher taxes will be changing their tunes the 1st time they get audited for not paying in enough.

The rich always find ways around paying taxes and tax shelters. They aren’t hurt by tax increases, just the people who would benefit by them disposing them of their money through increased spending and investment.
