WHEREAS, on November 11 Alaskans join in honoring and remembering those who have served in the armed forces of the United States and Canada for their unselfish contributions toward making our world a better place to live.
WHEREAS, America was founded on the principles of liberty, opportunity, and justice for all, and on Veterans Day we recognize our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen who have valiantly defended these values throughout our countrys history. These remarkable individuals have helped to make us secure and have inspired our nation with their courage, compassion, and dedication.
WHEREAS, on Veterans and Remembrance Day, we honor all who have given their lives in defense of freedom and whose final resting place is at our Fort Richardson National Cemetery, including Americans and our World War II allies Canadians, British, and Russians.
WHEREAS, in Alaska, we also thank the more than 26,000 American and Canadian active duty military, reserve, and Alaska National Guard service members. They serve together defending our nations founding ideals, protecting the innocent, and liberating the oppressed from tyranny and terror.
WHEREAS, today, we say Thank You to our 75,000 veterans and their family members who call Alaska home as well as the men and women still serving in the armed forces around the globe. We are grateful for their efforts, their sacrifices, and their dedication to duty yesterday and today.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim November 11, 2008 as:
Veterans and Remembrance Day
in Alaska, and ask all Alaskans to join me in recognizing our veterans and honoring their faithful service to our nation and our state.
Dated: October 31, 2008

She is displaying her diplomatic tact and foreign policy awareness in acknowledging the heroism and sacrifices of the citizens on the other side of Alaska’s longest international border.
Well written.
Veteran’s day ping!
It’s just a name change but I do too. When I was a kid the veterans paraded to the cemetary and fired the salute, and we kids left the school building at 11 o’clock for a ceremony. Everybody was real thoughtful.
