WASHINGTON (CNN) As President-elect Obama visits the White House, a new national poll suggests that the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the most unpopular president in the six decades since presidential approval ratings were first measured.
Seventy-six percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday disapprove of how George W. Bush is handling his job as President. That's an all-time high in CNN polling, or in Gallup polling dating back to World War II.
"No other president's disapproval rating has gone higher than 70 percent. Bush has managed to do that three times so far this year," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "That means that Bush is now more unpopular than Richard Nixon was when he resigned from office during Watergate with a 66 percent disapproval rating."

Revised Headling: George W. Bush continues to carry approval ratings twice as high as that of the democratically controlled Congress. This is a record for a late 2nd term president. Nevermind.
Do not be afraid, it is very popular here to trash President Bush. Only few of us still support President Bush and are grateful for him regarding crushing the terrorists everywhere, leading us to victory in Iraq, and protecting us for last seven years.
Bush took a dump on the conservative base as did John McCain. Liberals are not our freinds across the isle. They are the enemy!
(1) The content of the article demonstrates that the media is still powerful enough to destroy anyone it wants to. The MSM is still the Ministry Of Truth and President Bush is still its chosen Emmanuel Goldenstein for its daily version of the Two Minutes' Hate.
(2) The poster's decision to post the article is the carping of FR's most dedicated McCainiac.
As unpopular as President Bush has been made by the MSM, he won two national elections.
As much as the MSM loved McCain, they loved Obama more and the American people loved him less.
Your man is a failure - he managed to lose to the most radically left-wing, untested politician on the national scene.
Such is the fickleness of the MSM that declared total war on President Bush - the MSM created John McCain and it finished John McCain.
And that's the truth! He's not exactly charismatic, fun, or exciting personally, and his biggest enemy has been the U.S.Press. I've never been so disappointed with my fellow citizens for not being able to see the big picture and to follow along with whatever the media tells them (well, maybe I was more disappointed Nov. 4, but I think I was already prepared for that fact long before.)
There is no loyalty in the so-called "conservative movement" - only cowardice.
Utter classlessness.
Bush wanted a new tone and gave it to the Dems, who tore him a new one. He didn't believe in our movement, and has left the party a wreckage not seen since Herbert Hoover. The losses the last two cycles have been the result of people's dissatisfaction with him.
IOW, almost 70 percent of the American public is wrong but the usual suspects (Bushbots like you and jveritas) are correct about his greatness...despite the palpable evidence of lopsided political defeats in 2006 and 08. Hope you never serve on a jury. (Uh, then again, perhaps you did when O.J. was acquitted?)
Ok folks, move on. Nothing to see here....
We should be grateful he's leaving the country, from the economy, to the Republican party, to our out of control borders, a smoldering disaster...
how is your appoval rating?
“George W. Bush has been asleep for the last four years, hasnt he?”
Yes. Maybe if he spent 10% of the effort he used to lobby Comprehensive Immigration and American Middle Class Destruction Bill for Fannie Mae and financial reform, this mess would be less.
But the sense of denial is strong. I had a discussion recently with a “conservative” who insists Bush is a fiscal conservative, although the evidence shows that in American history he was the most opposite.
Yeah, Rrrrrright...so how do you explain the fact that despite Bush's sullied record providing the Mt. Everet of pinnacles to climb, the McCain/Palin ticket was STILL ahead on all counts UNTIL Bush's Treasury Puppet (Paulson) comes out with the Lehman bad news and Worse goes on national television to announce the "Cry-sis"?
I am a very proud supporter of President till the end. I know the great things he has done to protect us and to crush the terrorists. I know that he cut our taxes. I know that he appointed two great judges to the US Supreme court. I know that he has been the most pro-life President since the travesty of Roe Vs Wade.
God Bless President Bush and our brave troops.
The polling sample was probably taken from news rooms at ABC CBS NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and FOX. They are wishing they had card check so they can easily handle the next round of layoffs starting with the media members who responded “approve”.
At least W never had to resort to shelling one of our own cities to quell political insurrection like Lincoln did!
(I'm referring to New York, not a southern town.)
Agree 100%.
Republicans, the people who were actually there, went right along with everything. There were no big disagreements with Bush. He has had bad luck and that's all. He's been a great president.
At least Nixon tried to defend himself.
