The Hope? It's Not Going To Happen (possible AQ plans in the works)

The Change? The first major hit from Al Qaeda on U.S. soil in over 7 years.

OSAMA bin Laden is planning an attack against the United States that will "outdo by far" September 11, an Arab newspaper in London has reported.

And according to a former senior Yemeni al-Qaeda operative, the terrorist organisation has entered a "positive phase", reinforcing specific training camps around the world that will lead the next "wave of action" against the West.

The warning, on the front page of an Arabic newspaper published in London, Al-Quds Al-Arabi - and widely reported in the major Italian papers - quotes a person described as being "very close to al-Qaeda" in Yemen.

Is the Yemeni credible? The blogosphere's renowned expert on Yemen, Jane Novak, says yes.

AQ see’s Barry’s election as their green light. He’s a man of weakness, a conciliator. This is exactly the enemy they want to confront.

They get one free shot, which BHO will get to blame entirely on “the failed policies of the past”.

Well I’m sure that if old bin Laden does anything, Obama will give him a darn good talking to. Don’t you worry yourself none.

Welcome to the Osama... um, Obama... Osama... or whatever administration. Either way, Michelle is proud.

They may be hoping for a replay of Spain in the sense that Spain pretty much folded it’s anti terrorism tent after their train bombings. Maybe they’re hoping Obama will too but I can’t see that happening since Obama’s presidency would be over before it started if he were to cave to terrorists.

I don't doubt that they have already smuggled at least one small nuke into the US - it amost defies logic that they have not - and are waiting for a time when they can get the "biggest bang for their buck".
Major disruptions to our food and/or fuel supplies/infrastrucure also.
Our system is already severely strained with the on-going WOT and (real) economic woes.
Not a pessimist, just a realist - I'm preparing for the worst (but not "wacky, end-of-the-world" preparing).

Biden called it.

I'm sure that McCain had the same inside information, but McCain was too "nice" to mention it.

If true, then the question becomes does Barry give them what they want in exchange for calling off their attack...?

~snip~

The paper is edited by Abdel al-Bari Atwan, who is said to be the last journalist to interview Osama bin Laden in 1996. According to the report, bin Laden is himself closely following preparations for an attack against the US and aims to “change the face of world politics and economics”. The operative is quoted as saying that “this will be shown by the fact that we now control a major part of the south of Somalia”.

The ex-operative says he remains in contact with current chiefs of the organisation in Yemen and that only six months ago bin Laden had sent a message to all jihad cells in the Arab world which asked them not to interact with their governments or local political parties and to deny any request for mediation or formal talks.

The source also said that during the next few days the terrorist organisation may send a sign of its violent intentions.

I posted this on an earlier thread of the same article.

IMHO, the telling line in the article:

Somalia??? What???

Why is Somalia specifically mentioned as proof that AQ is behind the impending attack?

Here’s a frightening possibility:

The recent revelation of Somali pirates dying from radiation sickness (Iranian ship Deyanat) may have alerted the US and NATO to an ongoing AQ plot to load dirty bombs onto ships headed to US and European ports.

The pirates have been actively hijacking ships since 2005.
http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htseamo/articles/20051117.aspx

How many? Where? We could soon find out. The hull scanners set to be put in place in US ports in 2009 could be too late. http://www.lloydslist.com/ll/news/us-ports-underwater-hull-scanner-trial-set-for-2009/1224777519003.htm;jsessionid=70A3CAE9447D6F2C8607ABD875EA5163

Read this report to congress in 2004 which mentions the danger of dirty bombs being loaded onto vessels while at sea as a very real threat.

http://www.fas.org/irp/crs/RS21997.pdf

I would not want to live or work near a US port. Not at this time.

Good question- ask Joe Biden.

Seriously- it seems we’ve been given some warning by Obama’s own team- Biden and Powell. Biden said to the supporters they probably wouldn’t like the direction O takes- but other than an invite for global group therapy- I don’t know WHAT his supporters want.

Gird your loins, indeed...
