Obama Planning U.S. Trials for Guantanamo Detainees (bringing them to the US!)
Fox News via AP ^ | Monday, November 10, 2008 | AP unsigned article

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama's advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.

During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a "sad chapter in American history" and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed.

Under plans being put together in Obama's camp, some detainees would be released and many others would be prosecuted in U.S. criminal courts.

...

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard law professor and Obama legal adviser, said discussions about plans for Guantanamo had been "theoretical" before the election but would quickly become very focused because closing the prison is a top priority. Bringing the detainees to the United States will be controversial, he said, but could be accomplished.

Bringing terrorists to the same US they hate and want to see wiped off of the face of the Earth to stand trial.

THAT’S CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!

They better be on a quick charter home when a liberal Clinton-appointee judge acquits them.

This is the fat juicey target we need, a first easy win. If he locks them up the moonbat dem base will have a fit, if he lets them loose, we alarm/warn the public. This is a gift to us! No one wants these guys free but the moonbats. We need more like this. Losing Iraq may be another one. Obama cant afford to look week, being a lib, accused of being muslim and prior friend Ayers, this is the soft underbelly.

I assume we have to wait until he assumes office.

If he dares follow through on this, it could be his “gays-in-the-military” / Lani Guinier / Joycelyn Elders / “I tried so hard but I can't cut taxes” / Assault Weapons Ban / Healthcare Takeover Debacle(s).

What a year 1993 was!

RE :What a year 1993 was!

Someone else remembers ! This time 16 years ago I thought that it was the end of the world but like you say 1993 was one hell of a surprise year. I bought Rush’s book “See I told you So” as 1993 Christmas gifts. It was so nice a rare chance to turn the tables on a democrat. I feel like GWB has left us with a bigger climb, BUT, dont these democrats seem like they have the potential to get into lots of trouble? will see if they still poll test everything or go Chavis (I prefer the second)

LOL, if they poll tested the crap that happened in ‘93, imagine what would have happened if they hadn’t! The Republicans would still be in power!

No, he should send them back to where they came from and put out press releases in their country that they were very helpful in all information given and because of that, they were rewarded handsomely with hundreds of thousands of dollars. And because he worried that the next administration would not make good on that promise, he was releasing them now with the cash.

Those guys will be begging to stay at Gitmo.

“He should have waited on this issue... way to start your new administration Barry! “

He may have made that thinking he could weasel out of it. But if he doesn’t he could care less. He is the all knowing O and can not be wrong ever.

He will see less problem putting this on the country and the world. Releasing terrorists is nothing to him and should the go back to their countries an incite terrorism.

Wasn’t one released a few years ago and his native country did not want him back?

There are about 50 guys at Gitmo who have been cleared of charges but don’t want to go back to their homeland because of threats. I don’t know what will happen to them. I guess they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Agreed..... I didn’t vote for Obama, but a chemical, biological, or nuclear weapon will not discriminate between Obama voters and McCain voters..... We’ll all be doomed.

He’ll pardon them and grant them immediate citizenship. They’ll probably all be given jobs with the government.

It scares me how many ineligible people already vote, and how many millions will be voting next time.

I guess they should have been killed on the battlefield instead.

Maybe the ones at Gitmo should simply be subject to a post-fetal abortion? The left should be cool with that.

How do you feel the election of Barack Obama will impact Islam in America?

The stats showed many felt it would strengthen ties to islam in America...

That to me is just sick.
