He wouldn't get even 1% of the ghetto thug kids whose baby mama's and baby daddies voted for him by more than 95%.

He has a better chance of getting the children of people in the suburbs.

But there's not a snowball's chance in hell I would let my daughters participate in a program developed by that closet-muslim, piece of Chicago scum either.

There's different ways of looking at this.

One is that yes, we are doing their work for them and the general populace will never know.

The other is, we can make them react, at least in public. They will likely reinstate the mandatory requirements in the fine print for anyone who wants the entire college credit grant, whatever it turns out to be. They rely on short attention spans and the fact that as things get worse, economically, we are busy surviving.

I don't think our critters are going to be much use. They are a weak minority.

About the only possibility I see is private back channel organizing through the FReep mail option or private email. However, from experience, you can never be sure who you are communicating with, how susceptible they may be to any pressure or if the method of communication is secure.

I suppose this is all simply the definition of partisan resistance.

Not many 18 to 25’s are with their parents. Some are struggling young marrieds and parents themselves, like my oldest grandson is. This is being planned for college age and autonomous young people, as if they’re all kids with nothing better to do than serve the King. This is NOT going to fly; it’s still America here.

Severin is great. Let’s hope we get some more MSM coverage. What really blows my mind is the cost as well as the additional bureaucracy mentioned in the article - I mean about 1/4 of the workforce of Walmart. It’s insane.

I wonder how they will handle the Workers’ Compensation coverage for all these “volunteers”? Nice way to get free health benefits, wages and training after your slip and fall at the homeless shelter cook-off. Bring it on!!!!

The One doesn’t have a track record. He has no accomplishments in his career,

Part of what was taken down was the call to "renew" the Assault Weapons Ban" (New and Improved of course), require "childproof guns" (Ones that won't fire when needed), and "common sense" gun laws (whatever they can come up with).

On those scores he does have a history, going back to the Illinois Senate. His history agrees with the "Agenda". We can't expect that the same is true of the rest of the "Agenda". (Now taken down from change.gov)

There is a screen shot of the original on michellemalkin.com. I think many on our side generally know enough about technology to “snap” screen shots that are this damning.... before they “disappear”. (I’m glad someone does as I would not either.)

I called and emailed my rep when this came up, but by the time my rep’s staff looks it it up, the original verbage is gone. I end up looking stupid.

The original verbiage is still in the Yahoo Cache. Here is the page on "Urban Policy". Search using Yahoo, for whatever you want of the agenda, then copy it to your hard drive and send the whole thing to your Congress Critter. For all the good that will do.

Obama even mentioning the word “community” leads me to believe this is a way for legions of schoolkiddies to help with community organizing, voter registration and other ways to perpetrate a permanent democrat majority.

Although that is not the version with "Required" in the service part. But it was there at one time. For example, there was a National Service Plan Fact Sheet , for now it's still on barackobama.com. I expect them to take that whole site down very shortly. So grab it while you can. I just did.

Here's part of what it says:

Require 100 Hours of Service in College: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will make college affordable for all Americans by creating a new American Opportunity Tax Credit. This fully refundable credit will ensure that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans, and will cover two-thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university. Recipients of this credit will be required to conduct 100 hours of public service a year, either during the school year or over the summer months.

Promote College Serve-Study: The Federal Work-Study program provides nearly $1 billion dollars a year to about 3,400 colleges and universities to subsidize part-time jobs for students. Under current law, at least 7 percent of that funding is supposed to go to community service jobs like tutoring. Unfortunately, many institutions fall short of even this modest requirement, instead using much of this low-cost workforce to supplement staff on campus, such as in libraries and dining halls. Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we need to move now to raise the service threshold to 25 percent so that more students can afford to engage in public service. This will help more than 200,000 college students a year complete part-time public service while they are in school. Obama and Biden will work to help colleges and universities reach the goal of 50 percent in serve-study advanced by Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and by General Colin Powell as the chair of America’s Promise.

Has someone here saved what he scrubbed? It’s available at the Hillary Clinton Forum if someone knows how to capture pages.

What worker’s comp? One of the reason employers in Texas like hiring illegals is because they don’t have to pay for w/c insurance, among other things. Remember that mine explosion sometime back in the northwest? Some of the people who died were later identified as “possible illegals” and their family members were gathered outside as part of the protest. Wonder how much they got from the mine owners? Interesting we never heard any more about this!

I really thought he was more determined than that. Maybe this means he is stoppable in his Socialist plans.

Better to overestimate your enemy, than to underestimate him. Keep the pressure on. Let the politicians know how you feel about these things. As they used to say on TV; keep those cards and letters coming in.

I thought exactly the same things. In my mind, he's the "Sock Puppet" of Pelosi and Frank. I think we're dealing with a "Carter", not a "Hitler".

But I also agree that we can't take the pressure off. Way too dangerous.

Here is a view from a liberal CNBC writer (Cliff Mason, Harvard graduate and Jim Cramer's nephew) who dislikes the idea and in the same sentence calls Obama "brilliant man" and "stupid":

Mr. Obama, About That Voluntary National Service—Forget It

If there's one part of the coming Obama Presidency that I'm not looking forward to, it's his "voluntary" but also "universal" national service plan.

Some of this stuff is unobjectionable: expanding AmeriCorps, and doubling the size of the Peace Corps. But then there's the mandatory part of his voluntary service scheme, and here I'll let the Obama-Biden web site speak for itself: "Obama and Biden will set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year. They will develop national guidelines for service-learning and will give schools better tools both to develop programs and to document student experience."

Putting aside the question of the educational value of community service, there's simply nothing voluntary about forcing middle and high school students to do 50 hours of community service a year. Obama may have carried the youth vote, voters between the ages of 18 and 29, by a 66 to 32 margin, but I bet if kids in middle and high school could vote and they knew about Obama's plan to conscript them into this national community service program, his margin among that age group would have been a lot slimmer although he still would've won handily because the Republicans, thanks to their intransigence on social issues, have lost an entire generation of voters, but more on that in another post.

Middle school and high school were bad enough without having to do hundreds of hours of community service. I can only hope that this sort of thing won't get through Congress, and just this once I'm thankful that education policy is handled primarily at the state and local level. And as ever, I'm glad that I'm no longer a student.

Obama's web site also suggests that he'll "require 100 hours of service in college," another frightening prospect, but there's some ambiguity here because it seems as though this might be truly voluntary community service that you would do in exchange for a $4,000 tax credit. If it is mandatory, I suggest all college students try to graduate as fast possible, before this has a chance to become the law of the land.

As far as I'm concerned, this is yet another attack on the young by the political class. Obama's clearly a brilliant man, but how can he be so stupid when it comes to national service? You can't teach American kids civics by forcing them to do community service work. We're stubborn, in fact, that's our singular national virtue. For a guy who spends so much time decrying cynicism, he sure seems to be pushing a program that will make the next generation even more cynical than me and my millennial buddies, and we're a tough act to follow. Call me a skeptic, but this "Ve haf vays of making you serve" program just doesn't seem like the kind of thing that encourages civic-mindedness. In general, coercion doesn't tend to produce good results.

Here's to hoping that "national service" itself was a cynical ploy on Obama's part and he'll forget all about once he takes office. Hey, Mr. President, leave those kids alone!

BelleAl, you can send this article to your rep's office. It affirms everything you told them.
