Editorial: Thin the RINO herd

Now what?

The Republican Party -- nationally and in Pennsylvania -- lies in tatters. Having lost the White House to Barack Obama, suffered historic losses in congressional elections, been almost shut out in statewide races and experienced further erosion in the state House, there is no doubt the GOP has hit rock bottom.

It is, most significantly, a loss for so-called moderate Republicanism. Party moderates have opined time and again that a more middle-of-the-road presidential candidate could win Pennsylvania. McCain was touted as that candidate. It was a double-digit trouncing.

Water-boarding isn't torture, unless you are a liberal who hates America and loves terrorists.

You ain't fooling anyone but yourself.

I think I see your point now. Nevertheless, I have a different set of convictions wherein the greater of two evils must not allowed to rise to power. IMHO, to do otherwise is abetment.

Great post. Ron Paul tried to warn America...

Thank you. And yes, he DID try to warn us. Some of what he wrote in his manifesto has already come to pass. What I don't understand is how someone can just ignore his words. He made a number of VERY good points and now that some of his predictions are starting to come true you'd think he'd gain more respect and influence....but no, here we are, sitting around and wondering how Obama managed to win the election.

Here's the answer boys and grrls: Obama didn't 'win', we conceded the race. This election was NEVER about Obama it was about conservatives. And the social conservatives had their way, they floated McCain/Palin as the team that was going to win the white house. well, they failed. And what do we hear from the Palin cultists? Certainly not 'oh, well we were wrong. sorry'. No they blame 'the moderates' for the loss. Which is not only patently untrue, it's the actions of a rabid dog chewing through it's own leg to escape a trap.

smaller government guys. that's the answer. And if that means allowing individual states to decided on abortion and gay marrage, then so be it.

The only thing that torture achieves is getting the captive to tell his captor what he thinks the captor wants to hear.

It can be useful when the interrogee knows we have the means to independently verify the information, and that he will be held until we do, and that if his information does not check out then we will be unhappy with him. If those conditions are met, he has a big incentive to give out accurate information.

It's all about how you handle the questioning.

All all for that. Roe v Wade, remember, was about FORBIDDING states from restricting abortion. Overturning it would create an environment where some states could forbid it, others could make it a celebrated sacrament, as the mood strikes them.

And I would be all for states being allowed to have gay marriage, as long as all the other states were allowed to decline to recognise such.

I’m just jumping in here with my “two cents”. I believe you are on the wrong site and side.........90% of the good folks on this forum, and myself, would personally waterboard a TERRORIST just because. I actually think waterboarding is too humane.

...oh and I forgot; the Geneva Convention allows for summary execution (on -the -spot) of combatants dressed as civilians. FWIW.

My letter writing skills have to be brushed up and start letters to the editors and back to the county repub meetings to assure we push for a conservative candidate.

Unfortunately, it looks like it might take a lot more than that to get back on top see: Saul Alinsky Takes the White House by Quin Hillyer

We waterboard our special forces guys so that they know what it is like, and more importantly, know that it is neither injurious nor fatal.

We do that because it is quite alarming, and panic-inducing.

Although they all say it sucks, and is actually worse than having panties put on their heads, they are alive and well.

Please compare and contrast to, say Nicolas Berg, for example, who had his neck sawed through with a dull knife for the entertainment of the Al Jazeera fans.

Which states did he carry?

Yes, but to our fine social conservatives... it’s perfectly acceptable to have our nation become a marxist, communist collective if it stops abortion and gay marriage.

And how is pointing out that torture and Christianity are incompatable 'being a troll'?

When you confuse the rack and thumbscrew with yelling at folks, or making them uncomfortable, that's when it becomes troll-hood. With waterboarding there's no physical harm, only mental stress, and that for only a few minutes. Guess what, the bad guys don't talk to you if you just say please.

“So you would waterboard people in the name of freedom? ‘

People no. Terrorist all day and all night. I would hang them upside down in a used and unflushed toilet if it had a slim chance of saving one U.S. soldiers life. One.

And would I volunteer to do be waterboarded? Only if I was special forces which I am not. U.S. Special Forces get waterboarded as part of the training.

Grow-up.
