The Threat of the Fairness Doctrine is Very Real The Threat of the Fairness Doctrine is Very Real
Washington, D.C., Nov 7 -
With Democrats about to take over the White House and control the Senate and House in greater numbers during the next session of Congress, the threat of the fairness doctrine becoming a reality is very, very real.
Here's what Senator Schumer has to say about it
According to the Politico newspaper:p
"Schumers comments echo other Democrats views on reviving the Fairness Doctrine, which would require radio stations to balance conservative hosts with liberal ones.
"In 2007, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), a close ally of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told The Hill, 'Its time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. I have this old-fashioned attitude that when Americans hear both sides of the story, theyre in a better position to make a decision.'
"Senate Rules Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) last year said, 'I believe very strongly that the airwaves are public and people use these airwaves for profit. But there is a responsibility to see that both sides and not just one side of the big public questions of debate of the day are aired and are aired with some modicum of fairness.'"
Seeing as how the Democrats can not compete on the radio airwaves with conservative viewpoints, they are now pulling out all the stops. Remember Air America? It failed miserably. So essentially, liberal leaders in Congress are saying to America -- So you don't like what I have to say? Well, I'm going to make you listen to me anyway!
Your right, debate type of formats would be an advantage to the right. I believe the Censorship Doctrine is to completely silence the right, so therefore there will be no interest in the left in setting up a format like that. Obama will appoint extreme left SC judges where the Doctrine will pass. The point of ignition of silencing the truth, will begin!
Here's a question...could conservatives simply join their forces and put Rush, et al on a TV station instead? I realize the format is not too exciting for television, but it would force the point of either including TV in the FD or dropping the whole thing.
What the heck is Schumer smoking?
He compares talk radio, commentaries by people like Rush and Hannity, to pornography? Because you have different political opinions, and because sometimes your commentaries are conservative (admittedly one-sided), that somehow is like pornography? And then, since we regulate pornogrpahy, we need to regulate people like Rush and Hannity? What kind of logic is this?
Florida has no state income tax. I think he used to broadcast from New York and lived there? New York is one of those liberal high tax states. He probably benefitted financially from relocating. And enjoys beautiful weather year round.
Even though RUSH’s first attempt for TV progamming did not work, I am sure this may be one of his formats that he is considering. The fact that we are having serious discussions on how to get around this doctrine sheds light on what to expect for our future.
Glenn Becks mother often said to Glenn, “Glenn introduce to me to your friends that you hang around with, and I will show you your future.” We are beginning to reap the friends that Obama has been hanging around with, and we are now seeing our future!
Bachmann almost didn’t return to Congress—she needs our support.
Rush can move to the Grand Cayman Islands and broadcast from there if they pass the ‘fairness’ doctrine.
Hum. Rush is saying they will. Top Rats are saying they will. We all know how much The One likes debate.
OF COURSE THEY WILL.
I dont even think theyll bother will the scenario Rush talked about. Theyll just do it as soon as the one takes over.
Dont look for much coverage of this in the MSM btw.
Maybe that's because O'Really thinks it will be beneficial to him because the gov't will force people to listen to his pathetic radio program along with Err America.
O’Reilly there would be 100,000 on the street if they tried that or something like that. He is dreaming.
Just throw out the first amendment. I mean it’s one of the “fundamental flaws” of the US Constitution. I’m sure the founding fathers would have championed the left’s silencing of it’s opposition.
Some of us were trying to decide a new name seeing that FAIRNESS has nothing to do with that DOCTRINE..
Mine is “the ORWELL DOCTRINE”
Anyone ELSE??
