"Yes We Can . . . Ban Guns"--Obama Announces Gun Ban Agenda Before The Final Vote Count Is In
National Rifle Association ^ | November 07, 2008 | NRA-ILA

Posted on 11/09/2008 2:44:27 AM PST by Perseverando

Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign slogan, "the audacity of hope," should have instead been "the audacity of deceit." After months of telling the American people that he supports the Second Amendment, and only hours after being declared the president-elect, the Obama transition team website announced an agenda taken straight from the anti-gun lobby--four initiatives designed to ban guns and drive law-abiding firearm manufacturers and dealers out of business:

"Making the expired federal assault weapons ban permanent." Perhaps no other firearm issue has been more dishonestly portrayed by gun prohibitionists. Notwithstanding their predictions that the ban's expiration in 2004 would bring about the end of civilization, for the last four years the nation's murder rate has been lower than anytime since the mid-1960s. Studies for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that gun prohibition or gun control reduces crime. Guns that were affected by the ban are used in only a tiny fraction of violent crime-about 35 times as many people are murdered without any sort of firearm (knives, bare hands, etc.), as with "assault weapons." Obama says that "assault weapons" are machine guns that "belong on foreign battlefields," but that is a lie; the guns are only semi-automatic, and they are not used by a military force anywhere on the planet.

"Repeal the Tiahrt Amendment." The amendment--endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police--prohibits the release of federal firearm tracing information to anyone other than a law enforcement agency conducting a bona fide criminal investigation. Anti-gun activists oppose the restriction, because it prevents them from obtaining tracing information and using it in frivolous lawsuits against law-abiding firearm manufacturers. Their lawsuits seek to obtain huge financial judgments . . .

I have been watching Pres. Elect Obama’s website, it “changes” every day if not more often. Under the “Agenda” tab there used to be 15 or 20 links for each category of their planned “change.” Some of those links included: social security, education, economy, war in Iraq, and more. Firearms may have been a link too, but I don’t remember seeing it.

As mentioned here on Free Republic in other threads, the “America Serves” page has changed nearly every day.

This morning, all of those links are gone from the Agenda tab. Now there are 2 paragraphs on that page.

I am curious why all the plans that were so clearly stated and on the website hours/days ago are gone now, including their goals for firearms.

“Hollywood writers could not create a script to compare to the vast resources a ticked off American can come up with.”

That’s a fact.

To paraphrase Andrew Jackson: ""Hussein Obama has made his decision, now let him enforce it!"

I'm not buying any assault weapons. I expect to salvage several (including an MP5, I hope) from one of many ambushes if it comes to that.

You mean like new taxes not being made retroactive?

Confiscation will require a Constitutional Amendment, just like an amendment was needed to end slavery. \

It was not needed in California for the SKS rifle confiscation. Which by the way, was totally unsuccessful. I believe that around 2% of the SKS's were actually registered and then the owners found out they were lied to by the government (shocking!) and ordered them confiscated.

This is according to an unverified source . . .

http://www.gunownersalliance.com/Rabbi_0205.htm

but the interesting thing is that it is the ONLY source (that I have found) that gets right to the point.

Now, do not mistake this for a statement that Hussein the Merciful will not sign off on a total ban and confiscation of semi-autos (long guns and hand guns) if the paperwork reaches his desk. I have no doubt that that Fearless Leader, Cobammunist 1, would request such legislation from Congress for him to sign.

But it has got to get there via the normal channels. In the meantime his tall talk is only providing a form of "economic stimulus" for gun shops across the nation. American Citizens are buying everything they can get their hands on.

And that is a VERY good thing.

Kalifornia has passed a lot of laws that have been eventually ruled unconstitutional. I think the law incolving SKSs was one of those.

I have heard of retroactive tax cuts, but I don’t remember a retraoactive tax increase. Remember the government can pass any law it wants to; it is up to the people to resist by challenging those laws in the courts. If normal channels fail, then there we must resort to . . . I dare not say.

“The choice is now freedom or slavery.”

Yup. And, as Thomas Jefferson said: “I much prefer dangerous freedom over safe slavery.”

And it very well may come to that. Unfortunately.

unless there is a way to purchase them without leaving a permanent paper trail, Obama’s goons will just show up at my door one day asking me to hand over the AR-15 etc...

yep, all the 'runs' on guns across the nation have been watched...those 4473s are on the top of the stack...

unintended consequence is the run up of pricing for ammo that gonna happen shortly...

BEWARE:

Just a reminder that, with this administration, is very important to look beyond specific laws “banning” this or that, whether it be guns or talk radio.

As Obama admitted in his in little discourse on the coal industry, he knows very well the truth that the “power to tax is the power to destroy.” And, again as shown in his remarks on coal plants, he has made clear that he INTENDS to use the power to tax to destroy things he disagrees with.

A man who intends to “bankrupt” any new coal plants because he is against energy from coal would have no problem “bankrupting” gun manufacturers.

As I have said about the Fairness Doctrine, who needs it when the President is willing to tax radio, even cable and satellite, to the point of “bankruptcy,” and tax consumers across-the-board so that they cannot AFFORD cable or satellite, much less at fees heightened by huge tax increases.

Same goes for anything the Obama administration wants to get rid of or limit, including gun rights.

I guess folks didn’t realize how easy they were making it when they handed the entire government, and soon even the judiciary, over to the Rats. They don’t even have to pass more than obtuse tax laws to achieve their goals.

Lots of gun owners in PA, OH, VA and FL voted for Obama. I think they should heed the desires of their leader and be the first to turn their guns in - voluntarily.

Fears of a Dem crackdown lead to boom in gun sales

November 9, 2008

BY DENA POTTER

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - When 10-year-old Austin Smith heard Barack Obama had been elected president, he had one question: Does this mean I won’t get a new gun for Christmas?

That brought his mother, the camouflage-clad Rachel Smith, to Bob Moates Sports Shop on Thursday, where she was picking out that special 20-gauge shotgun - one of at least five weapons she plans to buy before Obama takes office in January.

Like Smith, gun enthusiasts nationwide are stocking up on firearms out of fears that the combination of an Obama administration and a Democrat-dominated Congress will result in tough new gun laws.

“I think they’re going to really try to crack down on guns and make it harder for people to try to purchase them,” said Smith, 32, who taught all five of her children - ages 4 to 10 - to shoot because the family relies on game for food.

Last month, as an Obama win looked increasingly inevitable, there were more than 108,000 more background checks for gun purchases than in October 2007, a 15 percent increase. And they were up about 8 percent for the year as of Oct. 26, according to the FBI.

Gun shops from suburban Virginia to the Rockies report record sales since Tuesday’s election.

“They’re scared to death of losing their rights,” said David Hancock, manager of Bob Moates, where sales have nearly doubled in the past week and are up 15 percent for the year. On Election Day, salespeople were called in on their day off because of the crowd.

Obama has said he respects Americans’ Second Amendment right to bear arms but that he favors “common sense” gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault and concealed weapons.

As a U.S. Senator, Obama voted to leave gun-makers and dealers open to lawsuits; and as an Illinois state legislator, he supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on all firearms.

During an October appearance in Ohio, Obama sought to reassure gun owners. “I will not take your shotgun away,” he said. “I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.”

Gun advocates take some solace in the current makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled 5 to 4 this summer to strike down the District of Columbia’s 32-year ban on handguns. For now, gun rights supporters hold a narrow edge on the court, but Obama could appoint justices who would swing it the other way.

Franklin Gun Shop outside Nashville, Tenn., sold more than 70 guns on Tuesday, making it the biggest sales day since the shop opened eight years ago. Guns & Gear in Cheyenne, Wyo., also set a one-day sales record on Tuesday, only to break that mark on Wednesday.

While Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, attributes some of the sales boom to the tanking economy, he thinks the Democratic sweep is the top reason why guns are suddenly a hot commodity.

“I don’t think he’ll be able to stand up to that anti-Second Amendment wing of the Democratic party that’s just been spoiling for chance to ban America’s guns,” LaPierre said of Obama.

Is this what you’re lookinf for?

http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy/

___________________________________________________________

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn’t have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

I would’nt be afraid to purchace another gun in fear of someone”showing up to take it away” When/if government people show up at your door, you have lost far more than your second amendment rights.I would hope we’d put up a fight before that happens. When a tyranny makes this country not worth living in, then might as well die fighting.
