While Michelle Obama has said that no plans have been made yet, speculation has already started on where the girls will end up. (The new first daughters currently attend the private University of Chicago Lab School, in Hyde Park.)
While preliminary guessing is placing bets on fancy private schools like Georgetown Day or Sidwell Friends (where Chelsea Clinton went), we’d suggest that the Obama family take a good look at some of the other options. Perhaps one of the better DCPS campuses, like Oyster-Adams in Woodley Park (as D.C. schools chancellor Michelle Rhee has suggested in the past, and where her own daughters attend)? Or how about a successful charter school, as Matt Yglesias wonders, like Capitol City, or DC Prep? Obama has expressed support for both Michelle Rhee’s work in DCPS and charter schools, so neither option is too far-fetched. And needless to say, it would be a great vote of confidence and commitment to public education if the Obamas were to make that choice.
Besides, if this election is going to continue following the bizarre trajectory of The West Wing, Obama must remember remember that Jimmy Smits chose a D.C. public school for his kids. Sidwell Friends or Georgetown Day? That’s not change we can believe in!
Betcha it won’t be in a DC public school.
Send them to DC Public School .. let them REAP what their Father has SOWN!

They've never set foot in a public school. Why should they start now that did can claim its all about security?
He should send his kids to the best schools he can. The best, period.
Nobody’s kids - his, mine, or yours - should be props to be sacrificed on the altar of politcal philosophy.

We should get the movement started for Obama to eat his words and send those kids to public school

To this day I don’t know how the Clintons got away with sending Chelsea to Sidwell v. DCPS. OH, maybe it’s because 90% of the DCPS teachers also send their kids to private school.
The Oyster School would not be a bad choice. It’s highly diverse with a bilingual program .. remember Barry wants Americans to be bi- or polylingual. There are actually a few decent public schools in DC. BUT, as was the case with Amy Carter, once a FCOTUS goes to a public school, it suddenly takes on all the accoutrements of a fine private school.

It does not really matter to me but you can be assured it will not be with that poor middle class he so greatly wishes to help. But hey I’m for school choice anyway!

The issues we are facing are far more important then this.
But what about the idea that schools are an equal opportunity for all?
Why are the First Daughters better than anyone else? How about if they improve a local school with the tuition they would have been paying to a private school? Win-win for everyone.
I think they are enrolled at Sidwell. have been for several days.
