Billy Graham Won't Advise Obama Because of His Strong Pro-Abortion Position
by Steven Ertelt LifeNews.com Editor November 7, 2008
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Respected Christian preacher Billy Graham has been an advisor and spiritual helper to presidents dating back to President Eisenhower.
But that relationship with presidents will now come to an end because incoming president Barack Obama takes such a profoundly pro-abortion position.
To be sure, Graham's health is playing a part in the decision his son Franklin Graham told the Associated Press.
"My father feels like his time and day for that is over," Franklin Graham said. "But he would certainly like to meet (Obama) and pray with him."
But Franklin expressed concerns about Obama's abortion position -- something he mentioned to the senator during the campaign as a stumbling block -- and indicated that as the main reason.
He told AP the Bible is clear in its teaching that human life deserves respect and protection even before birth.
"President-elect Obama has heard our position," Franklin Graham told the news service. "And I told him that this was very difficult for us and hard for us. It's a moral issue that we just can't back down on."
"But he's our president-elect, and those positions that he holds that are contrary to Biblical teaching, I hope that God will change his heart," Graham added.
Obama's position in favor of unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason was a key issue for pro-life voters during the campaign.
Obama also came under fire for supporting the so-called Freedom of Choice Act, a Congressional bill that would make unlimited abortions under Roe v. Wade the national law and overturn the abortion reduction laws of all 50 states.
The senator also drew condemnation for his votes in the Illinois state legislature against a bill that would have made sure newborns who survive failed abortions receive appropriate medical care.
Thank you Billy Graham for standing up for principal!! That is a hard thing for many star crossed celeb-tards, some “ministers” included, to do these day.
Watch how the Dems turn on him.....
I like that pic. The good old days. My dad use to say that. Im 51 and know what he meant now. It gets worse by the day, Im looking for Christs return, the world get more screwed up by the second.
Praise God for a man of the Word!
gnip....
McCain’s forte is letting Democrats off the hook. It’s been his bread and butter tactic back as far as the eye can see.
Good.
you have to stand for something
I don't want “success” if it involves and affront to God. But I will pray for God to change Obama.
I believe this is a mistake.
Obama needs to hear the actual gospel, not the twisted one he heard from Wright.
Good for Rev. Graham! God bless him!
Rev. Graham’s wife was my grandmother’s 5th cousin. So this makes me very happy.
I thought the same thing. Is Obama really that different from Clinton on this issue?
“If Obama is serious about having a diverse cabinet, wont he have to get a strong evangelical/born-again Christian on the team?”
Jimmy Carter claims to be a strong evangelical/born-again Christian, but he left his pro-life Southern Baptist church and joined the pro-choice Methodist church over abortion.
.
.
Any Christian who voted for this baby killer needs to question if they are, in deed, a Christian!
Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to the FReeper Digg ping list!
Perhaps Rev. Graham thought that Obama was not receptive to salvation at this time, and he would always be there to talk with him if need be.
Not even Bill and Hillary supported infanticide.
Heck - not even the good folks at NARAL supported infanticide.
As far as I can tell, Obama is the most extreme position in the nation on this issue.
I don’t think you can get more extreme than Obama unless your name is Peter Singer.
Wow! I can’t believe that old apostate is taking a stand. It has to be the first time in about 1 million years.
I challenged a person who claims to be a strong Christian, always talking about the Bible, says he hates abortion...but is voting for Hussein.
Makes me nauseous. (spelling?)
Pastor John MacArthur doesn’t think so highly of Billy Graham, I respect Pastor John MacArthur’s opinion as a Spiritual Leader.
Graham is stepping aside here because of failing health, not because of Obambi’s abortion position. He still did serve in his traditional role to Clinton, after all.
Let’s not make something out of nothing here, as his son has said;
“My father feels like his time and day for that is over,” Franklin Graham said. “But he would certainly like to meet (Obama) and pray with him.”
Amazing.
It says something about Obama that Billy Graham would sit down and fellowship with Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton (and with Dick Nixon after we knew he was a crook) but not him.
