You might not be thrilled by the election of Barack Obama, but look on the bright side: it's going to make life a lot easier for Maya Angelou when she hangs out with her European friends. Asked by Andrea Mitchell during MSNBC's 1 PM hour what was going through her mind as the results rolled in, the poet mentioned, among other things:
I realized, almost within the minute, I don't have to apologize for my country when I'm abroad. I can say: "I belong to a great country." And the Europeans who say: aren't you glad to be here in France where we don't have the racism you live under? Aren't you glad you're here in Britain, where we don't have -- I mean, I've been on the defensive so long. This time I can say: "I am an American: look at us, look at what we've just achieved."

Oh, Lord Messiah, send your blessings down on me.
I can not believe that the black race, making up 13.5% of the population in the US, has so much unbridled power, along with hatred for a nation that has done everything possible to right any wrongs. You should be ashamed Maya and I will tell you what of, your attitude, your ungratefulness for this nation, your race that will never take any responsibility for failures and most of all your racism towards the white people.
Apparently you haven’t traveled abroad much in the last 8 years.
I have heard her speak; I have introduced her to a very large crowd in DC. I think she is a nice lady.
But her poetry is very common. I’ve seen better in elementary schools.
She is lucky to be an American, and I am sorry to see that she, too, is now proud of her country, at last, because Mr. Obama is prexy elect.
I guess this is a real tribal thing.
She’s an American?
Who knew?
Her views have never been anything but European socialist and black nationalist.
There is no evidence anywhere in her writings that she’s ever read the Constitution or the Declaration. Maybe she has but there’s no evidence of it and certainly note that she ever understood either, unlike Clarence Thomas.
.......And the Europeans who say: aren't you glad to be here in France where we don't have the racism you live under? Aren't you glad you're here in Britain, where we don't have -- ...
To France, to Britain, to Denmark, to Sweden, to Germany...Now she can say 'We're glad we are not descending unto Sharia law...at least not in the foreseeable future"
How about you GO ABROAD you idiot....and stay there.
Thank you. AWESOME point!!
That’s as opposed to the all those minority Presidents/PMs of France and the UK PMs.
Oh, bite me! Maya.. I’m sick of these so-called elite snobs, I don’t care what color their skin.. and I really don’t give a fig what the elite Europeans think of us, either.
C’mon now...when you are hanging out with all your European friends, doesn’t matter to you? [snicker]
Maya Angelou oozes politically correct “sincerity” (though based upon many lies which are not truly sincere).
As Oscar Wilde said, “all bad poetry is sincere.”
Oh, by the way, Doc, about France...have they ever had a black president? prime minister? minister of a major cabinet-level portfolio? judge of the Cour de Cassation (their high court)? prefect of a department? mayor of a major city?
Go ahead and think it over. I’ll wait.
Once the Russian bear has European dimwits wetting their pants, these anti American clowns will really have to apologize for the US.
What a fun four years we face.
When you refuse to allow light into your soul, you are the person who is angriest at the dark. I feel sorry for Maya Angelou.
Gee, I didn't realize Europe had ever elected black leaders.
I never could stand her Prose or poetry...Oprah worships her.
My step daughters voted for The One and listen to Oprah. One day they were talking about something or other and added “ Oprah says....” about the 3rd time we were talking about something, not necessarily about polictica things since they don’t read anything anyway...one of them starated to Say “But Oprah says and I interrupted and said “oh here we go again, the gospel according to Oprah!...” they didnd’t much like that.
Now one of them whose husband just had to lay people off and they had to stop renovations on their house..is going to be in for a real big surprise when their taxes go up.
Anyone who feels they need to apologize for being American shows the fact that they have a weak mind and a cowardly character. I go to Europe frequently and gets the typical got the typical anti-American slurs all the time until and made it clear that their comments would not sway me and that I didn’t care what they thoughts. Believe it or not they respect me more for that. Those who don’t-I don’t want them as friends anyhow. There are many enlightened Europeans who understand America’s greatness, but their voices are usually drowned out by the masses of sheeple.
