You might not be thrilled by the election of Barack Obama, but look on the bright side: it's going to make life a lot easier for Maya Angelou when she hangs out with her European friends. Asked by Andrea Mitchell during MSNBC's 1 PM hour what was going through her mind as the results rolled in, the poet mentioned, among other things:
I realized, almost within the minute, I don't have to apologize for my country when I'm abroad. I can say: "I belong to a great country." And the Europeans who say: aren't you glad to be here in France where we don't have the racism you live under? Aren't you glad you're here in Britain, where we don't have -- I mean, I've been on the defensive so long. This time I can say: "I am an American: look at us, look at what we've just achieved."

Maybe the old ex-hooker won’t have to apologize - but I will- assuming I ever feel the need to visit the Caliphate North.
But now I'll have to apologize for the remarkable stupidity of the American people.
Um............yes, ma’am. But WE will still have to be apologizing for YOU.
fleeting cello plunges
crazily, gloomy heron
fluttering yearning
Hey, look. I can write crap poetry like Mya Angelou too!
let me see......this election was not about race... but the post election is all about race... Roll me in poop and dip me in breadcrumbs.......
Even on 9/12/01, when Le Monde was publishing their famous We Are All Americans front-page editorial, they were telling us how wrong we were and how we deserved everything we got.
Ah, didn’t she say Obama didn’t have enough experience to be president, and openly supported Hillary?
Barry and Angelou have prob written 7 autobiographies....they are so important
no sarcasm necessary - what you say is the truth. i have many european friends who openly admit they are not ready to elect a black person into office.
I don’t. That ended years ago.
On Clinton's inauguration day my office partner and I had it on the radio (he preempted Rush). Angelou started reading one of her poems and we both asked simultaneously, "What the hell is that?"
No racism in France? You have got to be kidding! To the French, they may think they are more polite about it.. but racism is rampant in France..
Maya is ASHAMED to be from a country that shed the blood of thousands of its sons in order to free the Europeans from the Nazis. Maya is ASHAMED to be from a country that sent more thousands of its sons and daughters to fortify a Europe that was under the threat of conquest by the Soviet Union. Maya is ASHAMED to be from a country that spent its blood and treasure ACROSS the entire globe to keep people free and help make their lives better.
I ask a question....What kind of country would she be PROUD of. Remember, she is FREE to move there.
She lived and lives in a great country, her race-warped mind has filtered out the truth.
And the Europeans who say: aren't you glad to be here in France where we don't have the racism you live under? ....."I am an American: look at us, look at what we've just achieved."
I don't want to hear another peep about their now-proven-false assumption of racial grievance.
You may have the sarcasm tag but you make a point that I’ve been saying for the longest time. I don’t see England, France, Germany et al having a black leader. Just wait until O’ does something they don’t like. Trust me if a miracle happened and amazingly O’ became a hardline conservative they would be slyly throwing racial slurs all over the place. They only like O because he’s a socialist.
So very sad how these idiots don’t know anything about unconditional love. I only know how to defend my country.
If they’re so unhappy living in America, why don’t they go back to their country of origin? She should be thankful she’s not living in a hut.
Maya Angelou is an arrogant, effete ****.
I am delighted Maya Angelou et al think Obama is the answer to all black peoples’ problems. What or who will Angelou blame things on after Obama takes office?
Man, I really hate these people who have this frame of mind. The "I'm so ashamed I'm an American" crowd. If you're so ashamed LEAVE!
