I dislike most politicians, but I’ll go on record here to say that Sarah Palin is the closest thing to a real human being to run for office at that level in 20 years.

She brought in far more than any of the others on McCain's list would have. A million or more evangelical Christians would probably have sat this election out if she hadn't been on the ticket.

Quite possibly. But among independents, conservative Democrats, women, almost any other group you can think of she failed. Thanks to her McCain's loss was a little less than it might have been otherwise. Given her failure to attract support among demographics other than the conservative base it doesn't look like she'd do better in 4 years.

What do you think the results would have been on election day with someone else on the ticket? Better or worse?

Depends on who that someone else was. I can't think of anyone who might have energized the base more, but someone like a Cantor might have energized the base as well and attracted voters from other demographics.

and the spin was in (so to speak).

Of course it was, the MSM creeps were desperately looking for any little thing she might say that could be misquoted or spun to make her sound like a 9th grade dropout. She was often accused of being anti-science by her critics, including some posters on here on FR. The term "anti-science" is simply code for her belief that the universe is the creation of an infinitely intelligent and infinitely powerful designer. A belief that Sarah shares with a large majority of the American people BTW, and not just bible believing Christians.

If the multitude of Sarah's detractors in the media and the political community are so much more intelligent than her, why is it that not even one of them is or ever could be an incredibly popular and successful governor of a large rich state as she is?

I understand your point. But the truth is that the problem was at the top of the ticket, not the VP spot.

While I think Sarah will make a fine president one day, many people do not (2/3 find her unqualified). That is data we need to deal with no matter how much we like her. And, I really like her, and hope that she will become the first woman president one day down the road. She's got plenty of time.

However, we would be naive and setting ourselves up for failure if we think she will be elected president without serving as someone's VP first (sure, we'd vote for her -- well, maybe not you -- but the dems and indies won't).

The McCain staffers' handled her rollout incompetently and the MSM tarnished her reputation mercilessly. She will need to rehabilitate herself -- and she can.

If she really wants to be president one day, her best bet is to serve admirably as someone's VP. With McCain possibly serving only one term, this would have been the perfect opportunity for her to use her VP term to win the presidency in 2012. But it wasn't meant to be.... this time. She will be back.

If Palin truly wants to be president then she's in the best role for it - state governor. She should run for and win re-election in 2010. Then compete in the primaries in 2012. That will be the true test, and her chance to show what she didn't show in 2008.

Perhaps you are right. Sarah Palin now has the chance to thicken her resume with a full term + as governor and then, in 2012 the “not ready” charge disappears (which seemed to be the only significant rap against her.)

One thing I will say, though, is her “outsider” status was, as much as anything else, what appealed to me most about her. I am quite sick and tired of folks saying how much “experience working with______________” is essential for being a public servant, given that too much government is the very problem America faces. Folks that are comfy-cosy with Washington, embraced by the Beltway, praised and lauded by the media are the very people we should be most wary of. Sarah Palin was clearly none of these!

That's a good plan, but it's not us that needs to test her (well, the majority of us). I think she can easily win our nomination. That's not the problem. It's the general election that is the issue. The problem is convincing the other side to vote for her.

I think a big part of it really is sexism too. Yet, having her serve competently as VP will allay any fears those naysayers may have. They will get more comfortable seeing her in that role.

But maybe you are right. Perhaps a stellar primary campaign will be enough. Although, most dems and indies aren't even paying attention to us during that time.

Heaven knows, she will be much better off on her own without the McCain restraints around her neck like dead-weight.

An advantage most governors have, and something she would lose if she were to run for the Senate like many around here suggest. Another 4 years as governor, another 4 years to prepare for dealing with the press, and she will no doubt do a lot better than she did in this last campaign.

Imagine all this buzz about a Republican VP candidate who after she lost an election and after being trashed by the media for the last 3 days straight receiving a 91% approval rating from Republicans (Rasmussen) and still being the darling of the right-wing blogosphere. Being as popular now as she is, Sarah would be a fool to not at least consider running for President in 2012, and I don’t for one minute think she’s a fool.

Sarah has already established that she is an outsider. Now she needs to spend some time on the inside to become acquainted with what goes on in Washington and to establish her credentials with the conservative power brokers of the Republican Party. That’s why I think running for the Senate seat in a special election (assuming that Stevens is forced to relinquish it) would be a good move. Sarah would also be able to establish a grass-roots organization and raise money for her campaign and finally introduce herself to the people of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
