Protest outside Salt Lake Temple planned [Be there or be ...]

If Jacob Whipple gets what he's hoping for, at least 1,000 Utahns will turn out Friday night to protest the involvement of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in helping pass Proposition 8, a California ballot measure that effectively killed, at least for now, same-sex marriages in that state.

The call for people to gather at 6 p.m. at North Temple and State Street in Salt Lake City is to show solidarity with those protesting in California, Whipple explained. Among those hitting the streets were about 3,000 who gathered Thursday afternoon outside the LDS Temple in Westwood, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, bearing signs including one featuring a photo of a gay couple with the words,"Why is this joy and love so scary," The Los Angeles Times reported.

"We want to show we share their pain, and here, at the heart of the church, we want to stab it," said Whipple, of Salt Lake City.

The 29-year-old former LDS Church member, who served a mission in Argentina, was helping to get the word out late Thursday about the Utah protest. He said he and others were seeking support through e-mails, text messages, social networking Web pages and old-fashioned phone calls.

Valerie Larabee, executive director of the Utah Pride Center, said her organization would "absolutely" be there to stand with others.

Just doing my part to spread the word. Be sure to be there if you live in the SLC area!

“and here, at the heart of the church, we want to stab it”

America is going to become a thugocracy very quickly.

Homosexual activists will not be satisfied until they have complete control over what ALL religions can and cannot believe. They seek to take away the First Amendment rights of those whom they hate.

Critics of the Church have incorrect assumptions about how their protests will be viewed and perceived by committed members of the LDS church.

For example, consider how a former church leader, Bruce R. McConkie, described critics of the church as "dogs snapping at the heels" of its members:

The Church is like a great caravan—organized, prepared, following an appointed course, with its captains of tens and captains of hundreds all in place.

What does it matter if a few barking dogs snap at the heels of the weary travelers? Or that predators claim those few who fall by the way? The caravan moves on.

Is there a ravine to cross, a miry mud hole to pull through, a steep grade to climb? So be it. The oxen are strong and the teamsters wise. The caravan moves on.

Are there storms that rage along the way, floods that wash away the bridges, deserts to cross, and rivers to ford? Such is life in this fallen sphere. The caravan moves on.

Ahead is the celestial city, the eternal Zion of our God, where all who maintain their position in the caravan shall find food and drink and rest. Thank God that the caravan moves on!

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

What's the point? The point is that while a small percentage of weaker church members may shy away from criticism, the vast majority will only be more steeled in their resolve to stand up for what they believe is right; opposition notwithstanding.

This should not faze the LDS Church much. Their faith is stronger than the perverts’ sexual addictions.

Hey, Mormons, if nobody else has said it yet:

THANK YOU

It's called political free speech. Protected by the 1st amendment. The church and its members supported the side of the argument they favored. The voters have spoken. The constitutional amendment has been passed.

Obama spent $690 million to purchase the White House. Much of that came from foreign sources and was "bundled" to give the appearance of contributions from individuals...many too poor to make such contributions. Where is the outrage on that topic?

I spoke with a friend in San Diego about two weeks ago. He was actively making new pro Prop 8 signs. The opponents were stealing signs and dumping them in surrounding canyons. When my friend confronted them about their littering of the canyons, they realized how very off base they were. The counter approach to stealing the signs was to make more and stand on street corners in the afternoon as traffic passed by. The local gays and lesbians showed up dressed as if they were participating in another "pride" parade. Unintended consequences. The public saw the "pro" side conservatively dressed and the "con" side dressed as a freak show. Both sides were there on a completely voluntary basis.
