"The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start."

Basicly he’s going to make ACORN an institution of government. He’ll make sure they get a billion dollar budget which will be untraceable, and kids will have the choice of ACORN or the military. Actually, the younger kids won’t even have that choice, it will be ACORN or ACORN.
It’ll have a different name, something official sounding, but it will be ACORN with federal power and money behind it, and your kids will work for it. There’s not a thing you can do about it.

I suppose he could tie it to federal financial aid,or an incentive to get a reduction in amount to be paid back if you do x hours of CS.
As an over 55 type myself... I will work hard to defeat Obama in 2012, or sooner.
Homeschool. I can’t emphasize that enough.
My nephews grades were dismal in the 6th grade. So I home taught him. Within 27 months he was reading, writing, and comprehending on a college level.
He is now four months away from his 17th birthday and just completing studies for the GED he intends to take soon. Around his 17th birthday he will be signing up for the Coast Guard. If they make him wait for a year he can study for the SAT and find a job for the interim.
I advise everyone to keep their kids at home and school them. They should be learning your values, not someone else’s, and you will find that your children will respect you and appreciate you more if you are also their teacher.
It is a good idea. And if local school boards wish to make that a requirement, OK. - but not the feds.
Keeping the federal government out of education should be a top priority of Conservatives/Republicans. Schools are a local and state responsibility - not Washington’s!!!

He’s requiring more than most judges do for some of the adjudicated juveniles I work with in my job.
Not everyone has that luxury.
