"The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start."
Doesn't this violate the 13th amendment?

Or else you will not get your govt. provided freebies, you college coupon, your mortgage break, your "tax rebate," your FedGov HealthCare Card, etc etc etc.
That's how socialism enforces govt. fascism, by withholding your "free benefits" that they use to enslave you.
Sort of like your annual required "tax investment".
Is it true that Ayers education reform includes no pass/fail along with removing all aspects of competition (spelling bees, etc.)from the schools?
I do know that one state I lived in had a school reform implemented and the above was the goal. Parent uproar watered it down, but still it is there waiting for the right time.
In essence it was changing the goals of education from excellence to mediocrity.
Obama laid out his civilian national service program clearly, and yes his slovenly base will be upset, but it will cover all youth jr high through college...it’s coming. Anyone who missed it can go back and look at his civilian national service speeches.
That’s the point...however the churches and programs like boy scouts, girl scouts and other places youth go must DEMAND TO BE INCLUDED. Otherwise he will appoint marxists to lead the programs, so yes...use that “fairness” concept against them is right on.
He'll address homeschoolers in his first 100 days. It won't be pretty.
But my college student doesn’t have a mortgage, her insurance is covered from her family, and we make too much to get any credits toward her education.
Far as I’m concerned, she can take those REQUIRED community hours and tell the government to pound sand. They hold very little power over us since we receive very little in benefits.
That's the part that most people don't get. They think we're going to settle on a European socialist model and live happily ever after. They don't realize that without the U.S. standing in its way, democratic (Gramscian) socialism will run its natural course and become full-blown totalitarian communism. And it will happen with lightning quickness. They're not going to sit around and wait for us to re-group and organize a counter-revolution.
We have a little more than months to get ready for the fight of our lives.

Shutting down homeschoolers and enforcing forced “volunteerism” will not be as easy as it seems from the perspective of an idealistic Senatorial seat. That’ll be tough for a new administration to accomplish. This isn’t the kind of nation that submits to “royal” commands from on high.
Schools and schooling in general is handled at the state level or below. He would have to be willing to send out Federal troops to enforce the issue, and I don’t think he’s going to waste political capital on this issue while he’s tangling with a worsening economy.
But, hey! I might be giving him too much credit.
What do you suppose HealthCorp “volunteers” will do?
Pick obese people off the street and force them to run at the point of a bayonet?
Man Planned Parenthood hotlines and run shuttle services to abortion centers?
Roam city streets plucking cigarettes from the mouths of smokers and chastising them?
My daughter noted as well that this diminishes the efforts of those who do volunteer work out of the kindness of their hearts and their desire to serve.

The Supreme Court won’t make any difference once he’s filled it with judges who share his ideology.

Social exclusion of your children by their peers. No one will attend their parties or invite them to theirs. The volunteer groups will form their own tight peer associations.
You will be singled out in every social venue imaginable as an object of derision for selfishness, eccentricity and perhaps mental illness. Allegations of child abuse will be whispered throughout your community.
Having any business you run avoided by the parents who will be thrilled to have their children participate.
They will find other ways to make you and your children's lives as miserable as possible, because, after all, you are impeding national unity and reconciliation. Individualism will become an epithet.
Forced, unpaid work is slavery.
