Forbes: Obama Will Be Forced to the Center

Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine, says he expect President-elect Barack Obama to be forced by the economy to "govern from the center," not the far left, as some fear.
"When Clinton came into office, the economy was growing at a 4 percent rate at the end of 1992. Now we have negative growth. Last quarter was 0.3 percent decline, Forbes told Fox Business News.
So, short term, yes. Obama will move to the center. He is a calculating enough man to know you are not going to be effective in office if you do things that people think are destructive to the economy."
The mounting federal debt, for one, will hamper Obama's far-left impulses, Forbes said. Federal spending could exceed $1.5 trillion, pushing up the government's fiscal year debt by more than 25 percent in a year.
He wants to get re-elected. He can't blame George Bush four years from now if the economy is not doing well."
Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh strong disagrees with the notion that Obama will move to the center once in power.

Who’s going to force him to the center? Reid? Pelosi? RINO’s??
There’s a LOT of wishful thinking going on, none here. Everything about Obama’s past suggests a HARD left turn.
The Soros/Moonbat wing is in control, this is their halcyon/LSD days.
All we can do is hunker down, fight in your states for election reform, purge the RINO’s, and vote in the primaries for conservatives.
And German industrialists thought they could control Hitler.
That did not turn out well.
Neither will this.
He will not govern from the center. Obama is arrogant enough to think he can get away promoting a radical, leftist agenda and that America will fall into line behind him. It won’t happen. He will be ripe for defeat in 2012. The centrist and center-right independednts that bought into his bullshit that he was a centrist will abondon him and the young ones, the first time voters, who really believed he was going to pay for their college and housing and food and give everything want will feel betrayed and stay home next time.
I read an article by Kudlow a while back and he said his financial advisors, while not supply-siders, are “conservative democrats” for what it’s forth.
He'll govern from the left and the media and other libs will just "call" it the center. See? Easy-peasy!
A bankrupt Federal government will severely limit whatever leftist dreams he may have had up until a couple of months ago.
I expect that one of the very highest priorities that the rats will act on is to do everything they can to ensure their majority will survive any election. They can do this by giving citizenship to millions of illegals and stifling opposition thru restrictions on speech and packing the courts with allies who will support them in this effort. The big media outlets are already theirs.
Our best hope is that they will overreach and try to do too much too soon and tip their hand causing enough people to scream loudly and put a brake on their agenda. But if they do this right they can get just about anything they want thru the congress and Hussein will, of course, sign off on anything they bring him.
I also do not believe that economic reality is going to deter them much. Reality has never been a big deal to the left and there is no reason to believe they will treat it any differently this time. What will stop them is if conditions are such that it is literally impossible to proceed. But if things are that bad the party designation of the people in government will be largely irrelevant anyway.
I really, really hope I am wrong about this.
Chairman Obama may be forced to dissemble and demagogue from the center, but in the words of the odious Algore:
“A leopard never changes its stripes”.
I’ve been telling everyone, I figure a 7000-7500 stock market for some time now.
Obama thinks he IS the center.
Steve Forbes helped Clinton win in 1996. His own chances of being elected were nil, but he had an endless supply of money to keep fighting the primaries..by the time Dole had the nomination he was broke and had no money to spend until the convention. Meanwhile Clinton had plenty, legal or illegal, with no primary opponent. Of course Dole probably would have lost anyway (Perot was still a factor in 1996), but it might have been a lot closer.
There are Richard Daley types using big government is a money tree for sinecures for union goons and old boy networks, and that is the conservative establishment, since they still believe in private property and cops controlling crime. There are revolutionary anarchists who want to shoot all the white people tomorrow and loot the Loop, and that is the left. And there is highbrow intellectuals for socialist redistribution, and that is the moderate center.
There are supposedly some weird racists in the suburbs that can be demonized and taxed, and rumor has it some downstate hayseeds still living in the 12th century, but nobody cares about any of them.
Actually, if it wasn't for the fawning press, most people would realize he's an incredible dullard.
Congressmen voting for tax increases will have to answer to their constituents. It won’t be as easy as he thinks (hopefully)
He wants to get re-elected.”
If there even are elections...
Maybe lower.
theyll remember The Wretched Bush Economy in 2012 as being the cause of all our woes
I agree and would bet the ranch on it! I just had a conversation today with an Obama lover and he is already excusing a quick recovery because Bush has screwed things up so badly.
he’s trying to destroy the economy. That’s the whole point. If they wanted a return to the Clinton years, they would have picked Hillary.
