Steve Forbes helped Clinton win in 1996. His own chances of being elected were nil, but he had an endless supply of money to keep fighting the primaries..by the time Dole had the nomination he was broke and had no money to spend until the convention. Meanwhile Clinton had plenty, legal or illegal, with no primary opponent. Of course Dole probably would have lost anyway (Perot was still a factor in 1996), but it might have been a lot closer.
Dole was Dole. At least forbes brought ideas to the table. Ideas that Bush and the GOP majority should have implemented once they won.
