Election smooth, but why?
The Washington Times ^ | November 5, 2008 | Deborah Hastings

Posted on 11/06/2008 3:41:50 PM PST by Shethink13

After all that fuss, the system worked. There was no meltdown, no flurry of lawsuits, no statewide demands for a presidential recount.

So does that mean America's voting machinery is finally fixed? And why did it work so well under record-setting turnout?

"Panic," said Doug Lewis, who heads Election Center, a nonprofit that works with voting officials across the country. "Everyone involved in conducting elections was just on pins and needles the entire year. Over-planning really helped."

I assume there was plenty of fraud, but the finacial crisis and Obama’s charisma did it.

I accept your point about the "financial crisis", but not about Obama's charisma. He had the MSM running interference for him every step of the way. Cripe, I could have won with that kind of backup.

And the sold-called independents - they went with Obama because of me-tooism. Everyone wants to be with the winner. In that respect the polls did their job just as planned.

There was only one reason the elections were smooth...the Dems won. If they had lost, there would have been chaos.

BINGO!

Thank you for stating the obvious. Many people don’t get it and the media don’t report it.

You know, they are still touting that this was a ‘record’ turnout....even tonight on Fox. What is that saying? Tell the people a lie long enough...

You are right.

But sometimes taking the higher road is less cathartic than going out and busting stuff up. ;-)

Somehow the voting system needs to be cleaned up but with the RATs in charge absolutely NOTHING will happen.

No different than the Bush administration in that regard.

Margins have something to do with it too. If it were a .5 to 2 point race it’d make more sense to recount and protest.

Rush's job is to peddle fear, it keeps people tuned in. Listen to what he says and be aware that it is a possible scenario, but right now while it's nothing there is no reason to be scared. So many of us live in fear of what might be, of the evil we think others might do...terrible way to live. If someone does wind up doing something bad to you you've been victimized twice...once by the crime, and once be the long period of worrying before the crime.

Just curious as to where it would be shown the turnouts were larger in 2004?

not finding anything obvious either way...
thanks

Am wondering what ‘will Obama be called’ by Press. ‘President Obama’. . .or MISTER Obama as they so deteminedly, addressed President Bush. . .

I listen to Classic FM, which means tid-bits of NPR news. I heard them call Bush President Bush today for the first time ever. Just before saying “president-elect obama.”

We will never know how many votes Hussein really won by. A lot slimmer margin for sure.

Now the leftists think they can throw elections via ACORN, Black Panthers, outright theft and fraud any time and Republicans will cower and do nothing.

If you aren’t scared of Hussein’s win, you’re on the wrong team.

It looked smooth because the Chicago political machine is accomplished at cheating. There was a lot of crap going on, with Black Panthers, etc. That’s the stuff we saw. Can you even imagine what else went un-noticed? I heard there was one county or precinct with more registered voters than there are adults residing there. The GOP just bends over and says, “Please, Sir, may I have another?” The dems will always cheat. The GOPs will always roll over.

Living in fear of the imagined vs. living aware and vigilante of the possible...that to me is the difference between being a bitter miserable f*ck and being a happy and productive human.

The numbers will end up being more than 2004 when the counting is done - they’ve passed them now. If you adjust for population, they will be about the same. The Dems got about the same number of votes as would be expected if the country in 2004 had the population it does 4 years later. The Republicans, however, are down 12-15 million from what would be expected.

CNN has the raw numbers for both years and the exit polls. Mostly what happened is Catholics flipped to O, some RINOs like their Liberal better than ours and did not like Palin, so they crossed over. The rest of the huge deficit on the Republican side seems to be those that believed the polls and a large group of mostly Fiscal Conservatives irate over the bailout.
