"Network evening newscasts will go dark after the '08 elections and their news divisions disbanded."
Walter Abbott, (b. 1950), Media observer and commentator
That’s how they do in the corporate world. They usually pay their managers of departments about 1,000 dollars per head to get them to take packages.
Yes, layoffs to follow. Hopefully a significant layoff. How will NBC News respond with its product line? Could CNBC or MSNBC get the ax?
Bye bye.
I don’t get all this talk about the dying old media. Did anybody here witness what happened on Tuesday? An unqualified socialist was elected president of the United States in a not very close election. This man was manufactured by the media. I’m afraid the death of the media and their influence on society has been greatly exaggerated.
Deal....or No Deal?
Take the buy out.
Think of your families and the embarrassment of having their loved ones work for a crap station like n.b.c.
Think of your neighbors, all laughing at you.
About The New Business Models for News Summit
Welcome to the New Business Models for News Summit at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, held on Oct. 23, 2008 and funded by the MacArthur Foundation with followup work funded by the McCormick Foundation.
We at CUNY believe that finding, sharing, and creating new business for news is an urgent need in journalism - perhaps our most urgent need. We have called this summit to begin doing just that, bringing a diverse group of editorial and business executives, entrepreneurs, and academics to the school...
This session was likely well attended:
* Public support for journalism - there are no white knights but can the public...help support elements of journalism?
Speed up the process by boycotting all of these media outlets.
What is NBC? Is that a news stations or something?

Can we PLEASE stop with this “Dinosaur Media DeathWatch” business? The MSM chose the Republican presidential nominee, the Democratic presidential nominee, the newly elected president, and most of the House and Senate. While the MSM’s financial model may be dying, its influence seems to be growing.
These days the old-time “networks” are merely a handful of TV stations out of literally hundreds available to most Americans. The best weekly dramas are on USA, FX, and HBO. If you want sitcoms there’s TNT, TBS, TVLand, etc. If you want news there’s Fox News and a host of others, 24/7.
Who in the world watches network news in 2008?
