Blamin’ Palin? What Are They Thinking?

The general rule among returning Las Vegas vacationers is “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” The same is true for professional political staffers returning from life on the campaign trail. Sure you re-hash certain particularly amusing or dramatic anecdotes with friends over a few beers, but you don’t purposefully blab to the national media in an effort to sandbag your candidate.

Not surprisingly, the McCain campaign doesn’t want to abide by the unspoken, but widely understood, rules of political protocol. Certain campaign “insiders” are, and have been, engaged in an effort to throw Governor Sarah Palin under the bus for –- in their estimation — bringing the McCain ticket down. These Benedict Arnolds have leaked everything from alleged Palin “tantrums” to rumored “shopping sprees” and a seemingly exaggerated tall tale that tries to paint Palin as inappropriate for opening the door to her hotel room one morning in a towel. In my estimation the only thing that smacks of inappropriateness is the behavior of these staffers.

The fact that FOX News’ Carl Cameron ticked off a litany of these accusations, in addition to a specific list of subject areas where the offended felt Palin was less than knowledgeable, reveals their classless effort to undermine her in order to conceal their own shortcomings.

The real narrative is the long list of subject areas where they failed this campaign. We can now add loyalty and professionalism to the growing tally. This is why they didn’t deserve to win. I lost respect for many of McCain’s aides during this election cycle. Now I’m left with none.

It strikes me as odd that McCain hasn’t spoken up about this.

Blame the chick....not the completely inferior way the entire campaign was run.

And the Repubs wonder why they’re sitting out the next 4 years.

team McCain was peopled by a bunch of cunning runts (excuse my dislexia)

Sarah had more gonads than any 50 of them.

What hacks me off is the number of conservatives that seem all too willing to go along with this nonsense. It’s readily apparent that the mainstream media’s hammering clouds even sensible conservative thinking to the point where we are joining in their chorus.

There is a lot of blame to go around. And the fact, the tide was against them anyhow. But Sarah didn't cement the base and didn't attract the PUMA vote. She had high negatives. And if she did any of the stuff Cameron noted, then what's the beef if it's exposed.

We all delighted in the Clinton gossip. Thrown lamps and all. Tipper not speaking to any of them. Vince and Hillary.

We've got to get out the tribal mentality of protecting our own at all costs. We'll get better candidates in the long run.

You’re not going to throw Sarah Palin under the bus, McCain folks. Had it NOT been for Sarah Palin, Mac wouldn’t have even reached 40% in the popular vote and many other states would have turned blue IMHO. Had it NOT been for Sarah Palin I would never have had such enthusiasm for the ticket. I didn’t vote for McCain in the primary. Sarah Palin at least made it seem relatively competitive. Several of the battleground states were reasonably close. If Palin were not there they would have been blowouts.

"She had high negatives"

HUH? She didn't START with high negatives - the McCain campaign botched the rollout and use of her after the convention, and the Mediascum went entirely unopposed in consciously driving her negatives up.

If Governor Palin had been properly used and defended I don't think her negatives would have climbed to 50+% and the campaign would have had a fighting chance.

Preferring to see the silver-lining: I’m thankful for the mental picture of Mrs. Palin answering the door in just a towel - excuse me I think my car just hit a water buffalo.

Good news: It completely proves that she is a threat to the media, the left and the machinery of the inept Republican Party. She is a “dangerous” outsider and that’s why they’re still talking about her.

You want Sarah the veep choice to totally cement the base with such a weak RINO in McCain? We got around 20% of PUMA’s in key states.

Sarah did as much as she could in such a democratic year and we were also leading in the polls until the economic crisis hit!!!!

Yeah, right “Navy Patroit”...now all you McCain haters come out of the woodwork and the man who served his country heroically and was tortured in a hell hole of a POW camp, is now a “traitor” in the opinion of most of you. Incidentally, what the hell did you do in my favorite service—mess cook for the 4 years between your captain’s masts, I’d suspect?
He didn’t have to pick her, did he? He did and he constantly defended her against attacks (as recently as the day before)...direct your hatred somewhere else. How about to the real culprit who lost this election for the GOP: George W(orse) Bush!

I quite agree...

Interesting how the McCain campaign is now scapegoating Gov Palin. Seems there is now a concerted effort to damage her for any future political consideration.
Definitely a Kerrigan kneecap attempt.

I've avoided Fox for the past few years...BUT just happened to catch Carl Cameron on Shep Smith/O'Reilly and his unnamed sources regarding his previous 'off the record' anecdotes about Gov Palin.

My IMMEDIATE IMPRESSION...
Carl could be likened to a breathless, excitable, prepubescence, girl just about to bleat out the latest vicious gossip. He was so animated, spewing words per second, leaning towards the camera, straining as he related his latest juicy tidbits.

She’s the ONLY reason I marked my ballot for McLame. That’s it and all. Had it not been for Gov. Palin, my vote would have gone write-in, third party or blank.

The beef over exposing it is that someone made a conscious decision to attempt to destroy her as a future contender, likely in favor of the same trashy RINO/leftist candidates we mostly suffered through in the past primary season, when all the GOOD candidates got trashed here and by the MSM and thrown under the bus in favor of the (then) MSM darling who thought he was all that, until the MSM turned on HIM.
