The overwhelming victory by President-elect Barack Obama (D-Ill.) signals a new day for American coal miners and all working families throughout our nation, United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) International President Cecil E. Roberts said today.
President-elect Obama has been consistent in his support for working families and our issues throughout his career, Roberts said. He has made it clear that as President, he will continue that support and will make our needs his priorities.
He will invest in the future of coal in America, Roberts said

Wow, guess he missed the “bankrupt” memo.
Agreed. When I saw PA was going their way I knew the rest was lost.
I continually compare Obama’s cult to Hitler’s. The logo, the pride, the nationalism, the government providing for the people, the government being the solution under a charismatic leader....and the hatred of their opposition.
It’s going to get ugly, folks.
If you all aren’t familiar with this Cecil Roberts guy, you should check him out on Youtube or google him. He is nothing more than a bumbling hick fool. I am from the same part of the country so I am allowed to call him such. He comes across as one of those bad, cable access preachers. (The ones that hold church in their own living rooms and broadcast via cam-corder).
Anyway, this guy is a total fool. He introduced Joe Biden at a sparsely attended rally down here in southwestern Virginia during the summer and made all of us look bad. He would be a good wrestling manager in the WWF the way he gets all worked up and dances around with a microphone in his hand. He makes no sense whatsoever.
I guess my point is: this guy is a freaking idiot and would say or do anything to stay in bed with the big shots in the Democratic party.
With the addition of about 30 million illegals, control over the DOJ, and unlimited funding of ACORN, there will be a 2nd term of Obama, and a 3rd term, and a 4th term etc. Free, open, and fair elections as we knew it died on November 4. There is a shroud over Democracy.
“They overwhelmingly elect both of them to office. What would it take to open their eyes???”
Well, when Obama’s police force comes knocking on their doors to take away their Bibles and guns, maybe then they will buy a clue. Of course it will be too late by then.

Being a simple (some say simple-minded!) working-class “prole” myslef, I’ve always admired the miners and had an appreciation for the hard work they do, and the culture and songs that have come out of that industry.
The struggles of the coal workers vs. “the owners” provides illustration of why unions came about, and why - for these men - they were necessary, a matter of physcial as well as economic survival. For them, in the early decades of the twentieth century, there could be no middle ground. Back then, one seldom left Harlan alive...
But times have changed.
As a unionized worker myself, I continue to be amazed at the blind loyalty rank-and-file union workers cling to. Perhaps its like clinging to guns and religion, can’t say. I _can_ say that I used to be that way, myself, but no more. Like David Horowitz, I began having “second thoughts” and chose to cross the politcal lines of fire about 17 years ago.
If someone like Cecil Roberts - the head of the union - is foolish enough to believe that an Obama administration is going to be friendly towards that industry, well... what is there really to say?
Would it be an understatement to reckon that these folks are going to be... let down.....?

“That is the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise, how could these people revere a man whose plan is to put them all out of business?”
See mt tag line. That’s how.
Your are beyond ignorant. I have worked in the coal industry for 31 years and hope to work another 10-12 years in it. That statement is as equal as saying you hope he destroys our economy. You are an idiot for making a statement like that.
“start taking the penalties and pulling out their 401kÂs if the rumor that Congress is going to control them continues to persist”
This isn’t a rumor, congress had the person speak to the commitee concerning this issue. And they won’t be controling your 401 (k) they will transfer it to the gubment and pay you 3 percent interest per year.
“Come on ... China has total estimated coal deposits of 4,490 billion tons. Why would they import from the US?”
Arbitrage? If it is cheaper for me to import my product then to use it myself, while exporting my product and making money off of it, the variance between the two is my net.
If I can manipulate my currency to show that positive net, why wouldn’t I do it? Especially if there is no one regulating it.
Here's the little union fascist.
Methinks the US will sell no coal to China in the foreseeable future.
Of course the US coal miners may vote to work for 15 cents an hour.
The coal miners will be out of the mines and onto the unemployoment lines soon enough.
I truely believe that the people in the coal industry knew better than to vote Obama in. And they are not the ones to fault for PA going blue. If you look at the county by county map of PA, the enitre state is red besides the Philly area, Erie, and Allegheny County (Pittsburgh).
The fat cat Democrats in the big cities made it go blue, not the blue collar guys.
The medical term for that is cranial-rectal inversion.
Yep. “A new day” is definitely what I’m thinking.
With the National Civilian Security Force, Fourth Reich here we come.
Electrical power is most of it and the growing percentage. Nearly 93% already.
