Here in MA, there are WAY too many Catholics who are still blindly voting Democrat. They have hung on to the notion, nurtured by their parents, that the Democrats are for the 'little people', and the Republicans are the 'party of the rich'.
Lately, another undercurrent is the rejection of the 'right wing religious' voters in the Republican party. Many Northeastern Catholics don't like the idea of bringing religion into politics. They've absorbed the notion that in public discourse, it's tacky to talk religion.
