NEW YORK (CBS) ― Mayor Michael Bloomberg is going to cut the city work force by 3,000, but that's just the beginning of the pain New Yorkers will feel as part of the fiscal crisis. A slew of new taxes are also on the agenda.
There will be 1,000 fewer cops, but the city will hire 200 more traffic agents to give out $60 million a year in new block-the-box tickets.
"The gravity of the budget situation requires us to propose both deep spending cuts and revenue increases," Bloomberg said.
The spending cuts mean reducing the city work force. The revenue increases mean taxes -- lots of taxes.
In the current fiscal year there's the 7 percent property tax hike that starts in January -- and the plan to renege on a promised $400 property tax rebate.

It seems to me I read a stat. that 5% of the residents of NYC work for NYC. Couldn’t the city get by with 3% of the citizens on do-nothing city jobs instead of 5% of the citizens on do-nothing city jobs?
On the bright side, McCain picked Sarah Palin over Bloomberg for VP.

First, let me say that I love Pennsylvania. Well most of it.
But I know Pennsylvania also has it’s own fair share of homegrown scum.
Witness the turds at the Flyers game that booed Gov. Palin and her little daughter when they were the invited guests of the team’s owners. And the Black Panther “security guards” outside the polling place in Philly yesterday.
There are good and decent people in every single state, city, town and hamlet of our country, including New York City.
Don’t go painting everyone with a broad brush.
