Of course, as John Paul II taught in Veritatis Splendor, no democracy should set itself against the truth of the human person. When John McCain proclaimed himself to be “pro-life,” many thought we would hear from him a call for some effort to bring the Constitution in line with the protection of life. Ronald Reagan was a champion of this idea though he did not succeed in achieving it. The Reagan amendment would have included the unborn in the constitutional definition of “person” and it had the benefit of simplicity. Yet, given again the related criminal liability for mother and doctor, it lacked the support needed for ratification.
Is there another way to show legal respect for life? Obama’s own cultural affirmation of enhanced support for the expectant mother points the way toward common ground. In this regard, a more modest constitutional amendment could be pursued that would presume life to begin at conception, while further providing that no government, federal or state, was competent to legislate on the question absent a specified supermajority.

Someone’s “miracle” is another’s “curse”.
Kmiec is a judas goat, an apostate and a socialist. Juts this pro life Catholics point of view.

I just threw up on my keyboard. Wonder what the price was Kmiec’s soul? It was suggested here that it was the promise of a judgeship.
Kmiec has made his choice. If the Freedom of Choice Act gets through Congress and liberal activists use it to shut down any hospitals which refuse to perform abortions, Kmiec will still defend his support for Obama.
Kmiec reminds me of Jack Reed who believed all of the promises of the Soviets, travelled to Russia to help, and never could admit what they actually were.

Kmiec is living in la la land if he thinks he can get the radical abortion lobby to move one inch in the direction of a constitutional amendment affirming life beginning at conception. The radical feminists, NARAL and Planned Barrenhood would be out of work. Obama has promised to sign FOCA as payback to the murderous lobby that helped elect him last night. Kmiec is a fool.
What is Obama going to do for expectant mothers?
Apparently everything President-elect Obama says will now be called "cultural" because the President-elect is black. I can't imagine what else this could possibly mean.

Does this consumate fool actually think Obama performed a miracle??? And what exactly would that “miracle” be? Millions of human beings joining together in deciding (in the name of Holy Saint Obama, I suppose) that the murder of innocent babies isn’t worth arguing about??? That they have bigger fish to fry, such as healing oceans?
Sure, Professor Asshat, they’ll all “work differently” to “promote human life.” You bet. Some will “promote human life” by killing their babies, ripping them apart in the womb. Others will “promote human life” (their own, by the way) by stealing other people’s property in the name of Change and Hope. And that’s your idea of a miracle, you pathetic excuse for a human being?

Well, Buddo, THIS Catholic IS distraught. Distraught than another professed Catholic could be so arrogant, so full of themselves, so utterly insipid about Faith and human spirituality, , that they could claim ANYTHING has been “transcended” by the election of Barack Obama. “Social Justice” is “at hand”? “Peace” is “at hand”? Give me air.
For the MILLIONS of innocent, defenseless babies that will be murdered, only death is at hand.
Nothing...NOTHING makes my stomach turn more than the drivel, the sophmoric, mewlings than come from this man’s mouth. I will never read another word he writes.
I think Doug’s errors have been challenged and met quite well by real Catholics. All I have to add is STFU.
I hope I am proven wrong in my severe judgement.
