Good.
We need this seat, badly.
Except Smith is a RINO, right?
It seems that Clackamas just release all their votes at once and Smith had a 30000 vote lead coming out of there, which is shocking since Obama is up big over Bush there
No - Gordon Smith is not a RINO
We need him for filibusters and much more.
how in the world do you determine in Oregon how many more votes are outstanding?
but something is up. It looks like it only a 63000 to 61000 vote lead according to the Country page website.
He IS a RINO. The trick is, is it because he’s trying to cling to power, or is he really that awful on issues like Immigration?
He also magically started opposing the war in Iraq. Merkley woudl’ve been a disaster though.
It is fix. Only a 2000 vote lead coming from there.
“Except Smith is a RINO, right?”
So what if he is?
On an issue by issue basis, most Republicans could be called rino—from time to time.
And this name calling has been working real well lately, right?
Not.
I suggest new smarter way of thinking and talking ought to set in. The goal should be to elect the most conservative Republican possible, but to elect a Republican in almost every instance.
Some older terms used to be “moderate,” “centrist,”, “middle-of-the-road,” etc.
The dems got united, and look how well it worked out. The GOP ought to try the same. Name calling doesn’t unite.
So in that light let me remind of Reagan’s 11th Commandment.
It is very difficult to know how this will turn out without know which areas still have votes to report...
More like 1200 up.
Exactly.
People need to realize you can’t elect true conservative Republicans in places like Oregon or Maine.
Am I a big fan of Smith, Collins, or Snowe? No.
Am I glad we have them now? Hell, yes.
We better hope they don’t cross the aisle when Mitch needs to do one his famous filibusters. Otherwise we’re f’d if they jump ship. You know Lieberman is going to especially after seeing Shays lose his house seat.
At least we HAVE the opportunity to hope they don’t jump across the aisle.
It will be interesting to see what senators like Ben Nelson (NE) do on potential far left legislation. His constituency is well to the right of what his party could potentially try to push.
Too bad he won, afterall he is a Morman doncha know/s
I am looking at the county returns and Portland is now just about 100% in. This is good, but there are still possibly thousands of ballots left in liberal areas. This will be very close I think.
Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
Lieberman is going to begin to caucus with the GOP. The RATs are going to strip him of his committee chairmanship tomorrow.
Lieberman doesn’t face CT voters again until 2012 - he will pay zero political price on any public policy issue by voting NO on cloture - even if he supports something better on final passage.
Every cloture vote is a unique undertaking on both sides of the aisle.
Thats a relief.
well sort of.
No its a good thing.
I think.
No its really a good thing, Merkley would be 100 times worse than Wyden.
