Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Several pro-life leaders are hoping the majority of Americans who take a pro-life position on abortion will re-charge and re-energize following Tuesday night's election defeats. They say the pro-life movement must prepare themselves to take on a pro-abortion president and renew educational efforts.
"We have long known that the work of advancing a culture of life is not a short-term project," Americans United for Life president Charmaine Yoest told LifeNews.com.
"Recall that William Wilberforce fought against the slave trade for 45 years before he ultimately prevailed in his defense of life," she said.
"In 2008, it is clear that, despite the challenges still remaining, the pro-life message is steadily gaining ground," Yoest contends. "Momentum in the states has enabled us to make significant gains in protecting women and unborn children. Young people today self-report as pro life at a higher rate than their parents' generation."
After the elections, Father Frank Pavone spoke of a "great mistake" but an "abiding hope."
"Americans have made a grave mistake in electing Barack Obama to the presidency," he said. "Yet America herself remains great and is not a mistake, which is why so many of her citizens will continue, with even greater energy and determination, to defend her founding principles."
Pavone urged the pro-life community to rally together to oppose the coming Obama administration's efforts to roll back pro-life laws.
"The pro-life movement has made significant gains in the courts and in the law in these last eight years. For the next four, the movement will work to prevent the erosion of that progress," he said.
Bradley Mattes, the director of Life Issues Institute, encouraged pro-life groups and advocates to focus on education with the reality that legislative goals of ending abortion are now stalled.
With federal legislation no longer an option for a minimum of two years, pro-life education is absolutely central and critical to our future efforts of ending abortion," he told LifeNews.com.
"The key to countering this devastating political loss is to change the hearts and minds of Americans on abortion and related life issues. That can only be done through effective pro-life education," he added.
Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue said he thinks the pro-life movement will ultimately prevail.
"Yesterday's losses are just a speed bump on the road to victory for the innocent," he told LifeNews.com. "Overall, Americans are more pro-life than ever before. Election cycles tend to be cyclical, and we are confident that we will once again have our day."
"These setbacks will only energize us. The fight is on," Newman explained. "We will continue to work though every available legal means to stop abortion. The person occupying the White House will not diminish that work."
"Now is not the time for discouragement, but a time to roll up our sleeves and continue the fight, having peace knowing that the results in God's hands and, ultimately, victory is assured," he concluded.

It’s going to be a tough fight now, as Pro-Death Pelosi, Pro-death Reid, and kill the babies born alive Obama are in office. We have never had this tough of opposition to the sanctity of life ever. These three would kill a baby on site just to satisfy their hatred of them. They are bloodthirsty monsters. Baby killers, children slaughterers. (That’s it, I am going to attack them with the same amount they attacked us)

Amen. Amen. Amen. We are not going to let anything about this election get in the way of doing God’s work. Prayer. Faith. Action. Repeat. :-)

What is horrible about the losses is that Pro-Life groups did not whole heatedly support the propositions. After doing so well to make steady progress with waiting period legislation, and notification laws. There are so many ways to wage war on Abortion in the legal system.

New Terri Dailies theme... I will be forever humbled by the lengths Eduardo Verastegui and so many others went to in this election and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for so many FReepers who recognize the absolute importance of life. Nevertheless, the election is over and we are now engaged in the most critical battle we will ever fight and for that reason we must look forward.
God Bless

Yes. Wonderfully written and inspiring. We can do this!!!! What doesn't kill us makes us stronger and we have God on our side after all :-). Heck if people all gave up when it got tough, we would not even be around and the United States of America nor Christianity would exist.

BO supports killing them when they are born alive. His is guilty of Romans 1
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

OLYMPIA, Wash. Voters approved Initiative 1000 on Tuesday, making Washington the second state to give terminally ill people the option of medically assisted suicide.
The ballot measure, patterned after Oregon's "Death with Dignity" law, allows a terminally ill person to be prescribed lethal medication, which would be self-administered...

the pro-life movement can’t rely on lawyers and trying to change the constitution. That will probably never happen.
It has to be all about education. TV ads.

I think the entire pro-life movement is misguided. Rather than just focus on abortion, maybe they should work to covert more people to Christianity. I don’t mean wishy-washy new age “Christians”, I mean doctrinally correct real Christians.
Because once you do that most if not all of them will come to the right conclusion about life issues.
Christ did not tell us to go out and stop abortions, he told us to spread the Gospel.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God,and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”
To: Truthsearcher
maybe that’s YOUR mission, while the prolife community considers THEIR mission the saving of lives, which contain souls, that can then be passed on to you to save.

His is guilty of Romans 1 I was going to quote you California Penal Code 187,l the code for murder. But after the first sentence, I became sick to my stomach. Start with b) and you will see what I mean. We got Prop 8, time to amend 187:
187. (a) Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought. (b) This section shall not apply to any person who commits an act that results in the death of a fetus if any of the following apply: (1) The act complied with the Therapeutic Abortion Act, Article 2 (commencing with Section 123400) of Chapter 2 of Part 2 of Division 106 of the Health and Safety Code. (2) The act was committed by a holder of a physician's and surgeon' s certificate, as defined in the Business and Professions Code, in a case where, to a medical certainty, the result of childbirth would be death of the mother of the fetus or where her death from childbirth, although not medically certain, would be substantially certain or more likely than not. (3) The act was solicited, aided, abetted, or consented to by the mother of the fetus. (c) Subdivision (b) shall not be construed to prohibit the prosecution of any person under any other provision of law.

Father Frank Pavone, a great friend to Terri and all who fight for life, explains just what a monster Obama truly is.
Thread by cpforlife.org
Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for life issued a strongly-worded video statement putting Obama's victory in perspective with the future of the pro-life movement.
"This is one of the biggest mistakes that the American people have made in the entire history of our nation," said Fr. Pavone, "and the many reasons why that's true will come to light as the months go on. But the biggest reason why that's true is that here we have a president-elect who cannot tell the difference betweens serving the public and killing the public.
"If you don't know when human rights begin, then you're in no position to govern a country that was founded on the principle of human rights," said Fr. Pavone. Sen. Obama, when asked at the Saddleback Church forum when he thought a child gained human rights, infamously answered that the question was "above my pay grade."
"A lot changes with this," Fr. Pavone continued, noting that pro-lifers will no longer be able to work inside the White House, and will be forced to turn to defensive maneuvers in the U.S legislature.
However, "change" is far from the whole story, says Pavone, who reminds viewers of the many things that remain the same.
"The American people are pro-life," he affirmed. "The American people have never bought into the extreme abortion position of Obama and his party. And they never will. That is why the American people ... will continue to work with us.
Above all, Fr. Pavone declared, "What is never going to change is that this movement is headed for victory.
"We have started a movement on behalf of the unborn, and that movement enters a new chapter today, a chapter of new determination, of new vigor, of new strategy."
Pavone spoke words of comfort to pro-lifers struggling to accept the election news.
"Be encouraged! It's fine to be disappointed about the outcome of an election," he said. "But we can never walk away from the cause. Together we will work, we will protest, we will defend, we will intervene, we will educate, and we will win this struggle for the lives of our unborn brothers and sisters."
