Prolific novelist and "ER" creator Michael Crichton has passed away. He was 66.
Perhaps best known for being the author of Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World, which were turned into a hugely successful movie franchise, his numerous books have sold over 150 million copies worldwide.
In what his family calls an unexpected death, it was revealed that he was waging a private battle against cancer.

True, very sad for his family, friends and fans. Just the thought of President Obama caused him to expire before his time.

Brilliant guy. Quite a loss. He was a Renaissance man.
Interesting timing-he was mighty smart about the future-probably willed himself to die after seeing the election results.

I always enjoyed his books, “Jurassic Park” was a little over the top, but “The Great Train Robbery” (one of his earlier books) is an old favorite of mine, as is “Timeline.”
I am glad I read Timeline prior to having seen the movie. Everyone else I know who just saw the movie were baffled by the speed the characters and plot were jammed down their throats.
The book was incredible, the movie sucked.

His novels were wake-up calls against the dangers of politicizing science. Though, unlike his characters who exposed the evil leftist plots before they could do too much damage, Crichton couldn’t stop The One. At least he’ll be spared having to live through the coming nightmare.
I can think of only two books that I read from start to finish without putting down. Andromeda Strain was one of them.
The book was great. It explained every detail. The directors of the movie did not read the book. They just used the title and made up stuff as they went.............
Give the Great Train Robbery a read. The background information he spins out on Victorian England is really fun. I’ve read most of his works. The only one I couldn’t make it through was A Case of Need. It might have become balanced later in, but the early sympathic view for the abortionists turned me off. Despite, I was a fan and am sorry to hear this.
Indeed. “Sphere”, was my favorite.
