Sarah Palin could wind up in Washington serving with John McCain after all -- in the U.S. Senate.
Here's the scenario making the rounds of arch-conservative groups strongly in the Palin camp:
After their expected loss today, Palin goes back to being governor of Alaska and McCain remains a U.S. Senator (his term ends in 2011).
But Ted Stevens, the Alaskan Republican senator convicted recently of corruption, is still up for re-election as of today.
Here's where Palin and the Senate come in:
If Stevens wins, he could either step down on his own (unlikely, given his pugnacious personality) or the U.S. Senate could expel him in 2009.
Then, Alaska would hold an election to choose a new senator.
And, in this version at least, the oh-so-popular Palin would run and win a seat in the U.S. Senate

Did anyone see the video of her last night, with tears in her eyes? I couldn’t tell if it was just because they lost or she knew the Republic is now in serious jeopardy or some combination of both. Either way, it made me cry.
You really care what they think? I don’t. AFAIC, those rinos can all slither off into irrelevance.
A Palin/Jindal ticket would be a conservagasm. The MSM can prove they are both sexist and racist when you are a Republican.
Last thing the country needs is another senator running for President. Governor is a fine position.
The press would have a field day with that. Bad idea.
ok but no more Senators
Palin/Petraeus!
You dont have to put out a press release announcing you have hired Karl Rove. Just do it quietly and if needed via a third party.
She should stay the hell out of that cesspool.
Go on as many talking heads shows that she can. She can start by talking about the economic impact of higher green energy prices on U.S. competitiveness and security.
She can also ask the question - what are we going to do with the 120,000,000 gasoline engine cars that we currently have on the roads? Even if we had an electric car tomorrow and a way to generate the power, no way the auto investment can be abandoned without a HUGE economic impact.
I would advise her not to go on any hunting trips with any Neocons
And as she stood on the stage with McCain tonight, I saw her same tears. They were the tears of a joyous competitor and champion, who ran the race TO WIN and could not understand why she didn't. I don't think she understood McCain's hesitancy or his old man reluctance to put 100 percent in the race TO WIN IT. I think she felt hurt by him, frankly. She was hurt. She was crucified. McCain never took off his Marquis of Queensbury gloves. Sarah did. I pray she can forgive him.
I worry she is going to slink into some of the stranger elements of her charismatic beliefs as a balm to the wounds of this loss. I am a charismatic, so I know whereof I speak.
That said, the U.S. doesn't have six more years without someone like Palin in high office.
IMHO, she needs to
1. Stay away from the weird beliefs of the “Apostolic Prophetic Cult” that her AOG church got very muddy with this year at some fake revival thing called Lakeland and Todd Bentley on “God TV’.
2. Stay away even from TBN as well.
3. Trust that God “works all things together for good for those who love Him”... and trust that He is good and has a plan for her in this country.
Sarah, trust that the Lord is not going to allow you to fall off the face of the earth ala Katherine Harris. We know that your position even as Governor of Alaska has been compromised now, but stick to your guns. I wonder if McCain realizes the damage he's done; how much harder it will be for you to govern now. He did not run to win. He ran to show.
Romney will be her biggest competitor if she wants to run for President. He is a nightmare Mormon and compromiser on moral issues like abortion and gay marriage, as well. The worst thing she could do would be to hook up with him, despite some of those people in the “Apostolic Prophetic Cult” who, like James Dobson, insanely promoted Romney over McCain.
She should just know that she is in our prayers and the country does still need her. She grew in leaps and bounds in the past ten weeks. It was amazing to see her final speech compared to her first acceptance speech in Ohio. The sweetness and joy were still there, but after the trial by fire she's gone through, it was the speech of a seasoned warrior at the end.
We shall NOT forget her courage and neither shall her God.
That cruise looks fun ... Fred Thompson and Mark Steyn! Alas, I’m too poor. Oh well, Obama’s gonna pay for my mortgage at least ;)
Very nice comments IreneE. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Palin has nothing to look back on with remorse. She did her best. She was a big help. She was able to learn/grow from the experience.
I am proud of her. Her husband and her family deserve a lot of respect for their demeanor through all this. Her daughter’s privacy was sacrificed for this. She handled it very well.
Good people...
I hope she stays Governor. She can actually implement small government, instead of being part of a small minority.
While I think that Palin could run for POTUS in 2012, there is one thing to consider. Extrapolate the Hussein administration for 4 years. The economic, financial, and foreign affairs condition of this country by 2012 may warrant the people of the likes of Jindal, Pence, etc. Sarah may have been a good fit as VP now but maybe not in 2012.
Not bashing Sarah but it is something that you need to consider.
