The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace ~ What must our enemies be thinking? (former Kerry lawyer)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 11-5-08 | Jeffrey Scott Shapiro

Posted on 11/05/2008 12:02:40 AM PST by STARWISE

Earlier this year, 12,000 people in San Francisco signed a petition in support of a proposition on a local ballot to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after George W. Bush.

The proposition is only one example of the classless disrespect many Americans have shown the president.

According to recent Gallup polls, the president's average approval rating is below 30% -- down from his 90% approval in the wake of 9/11. Mr. Bush has endured relentless attacks from the left while facing abandonment from the right.

This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, "Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust."

Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both political parties.

Time and again there were opportunities and certainly reasons for calling a press conference

As if the MSM would have ever allowed his message to resonate; they would have followed every attempt with their endless panels of lying, babbling media hogs after every single attempt along with unlimited face time for fat Barney Frank.

Pipe dreams.

He has suffered unrelentless attacks. And has chosen to NOT respond to any of them or go on the offense. That is of HIS choosing and HIS fault.

I agree 100%. I blame yesterday's and 2006's lost on him. He is supposedly the leader of conservative and Republican movements, but he has been so weak in defending their principles. Unfortunately, because he ran as conservative, when people started to buy the media's portrayal of him, the whole movement get tainted. The worse thing, I believe is that he ran as a Christian. When his image tainted, so are other Christians in America. I suspect that either he is too nice or he suffers from martyr complex.

...don’t expect me to be a part of it.

I don't expect you to be a part of it. In fact, I will do everything in my power to make sure you are not a part of it.  Be my guest.  You just got your ass handed to you, and now it's my fault.  You need to ask better questions.

There was not one of the major contenders for the nomination that I would not have supported. Not one. Because I know that across this broad and diverse country there are differences as well as commonalities. That's why we have primaries. The candidates were vetted, probed and prodded. McCain came out on top. He wasn't the pick of te RNC, he was the pick of the people in the primary states, Northeast, South, Midwest and Southeast.  McCain was the product of a primary process that has been set up to elect precisely the type of person the RNC wants.  If you can't grasp that, so be it.  The fact remains.  Early caucuses and primaries are able to be manipulated.  We don't get the good guys because the guys like McCain can suck all the oxygen out of the room.  Some primaries and Caucuses are open.  These things are easily gamed.  By the time most of us get to vote for who the nominee will be, they choice has already been made.  And it's made by as little as a few hundred thousand votes.

The objections that you had with McCain were nothing short of stark, raving lunacy.  That's the ticket.  We can't sell a closet liberal because for some unexplainable reason liberals want to vote for the real thing.  Then you come here to tell me I'm the problem.  Yes, if asking our nominees to adopt the core beliefs of Sarah Palin is stark raving lunacy, then you've certainly nailed me.

We can put up with some lunacy in exchange for support but when we get the lunacy and no support, we have a situation that calls for a parting of the ways.  Hmmm, well the only parting of the ways that I am interested in right now, is the parting of our party from the White House, the House, and the Senate of the United States.  You guys got the player you wanted.  You had to have him.  You defended his ass no matter what.  He got his chance to lead our party.  How did that work out?  You got your way, and you're still not happy.  It turned out just as I predicted it would over eight months ago.  Now you're the expert and I'm the person who cause trouble for you.  LMAO

You are not going to sit out an election and then walk back in demanding the right to name a nominee. No, sir. Hit the road.   You're a hoot.  You got your way.  You got our party's ass stomped at the polls.  And now you tell me that my objection to what you have just facilited for our nation, is unpatriotic and evil.  I'm sure the absurdity of your stance is lost on you.

There are other parties out there more suited to what you are looking for.  Yes.  And the one that is my favorite, can't find anyone more conservative than Dole, Bush, and McCain to run.  And what cracks me up, is that you actually have the stones to get angry with me because I want an actual Conservative to lead our party into elections.

We have our Order of Battle and your name is not on it.  Well, your order of battle sure paid off this time sunshine.  What amazes me is that you think driving folks like me from your ranks will improve the situation.  Yep, just find some more RINOs to get things back on track... right?

Yes, I've seen that list of Bush accomplishments before.

Looks even more complete this time.

I will likely refer to it many times.

Don’t think I’m upset with you. I appreciate your comments. I just respond with vigor. I think we’re all having a hard time coping with what has just taken place, and what the next four years portends.

One of my gravest concerns is for Israel. By the time this nut is done, we may have a hard time defending ourselves, let alone Israel.

And his friends include the enemies of Israel. I am not amused.

You take care bud.

Oh ho. The left is trying to diffuse the revenge which is coming.

We don’t it as stupidly as the left, ham-handed, traitorous bastards that they are.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. And boy are you ever going to be on the receiving end of a political nightmare.

All of them are good for him, and may be for the country in the short run, but the damage he helped created to the party will last longer. Most if not all things you listed will be changed by 0bama and Democrats Congress. So, what's good in that?

Please focus you anger on Obama who ordered out the Missouri Truth Squads instead of attacking Bush. More effective energy was needed attacking Pelosie, Reid and Obama than Romney, Giuliani etc. How many wonderful FReepers did we lose earlier this year because of misplaced venom? It would have behooved us to bite our enemies instead of our friends and allies.

I agree 100%. Of course, both of us could be banned for saying so. I cringe when we go after each other. The left is monolithic. We love to go after each other. It had to catch up to us eventually. I just wish it wasn't soooo diasterous. God bless America. We need His blessing, desperatly.

Bush and McCain put COUNTRY FIRST .....and the American people overwhelmingly rejected it ....and we can blame not only the far left but the far right as well for this disgrace !!

Enjoy the results America !!

We are headed towards hard times that will shake this Country to it's roots.....we have lessons to learn, sacrifices to make and character to rebuild !!

Only when this Nations suffers the consequences for it's behavior and excesses will it learn WHAT IT HAD AND APPRECIATE IT .....isn't this the lesson we try to teach our kids all the time ??

Well, the lesson is now the Country's to learn ...THE HARD WAY !!

With this Obama Presidency, we shall soon realize WHAT WE HAD AND DIDN'T APPREICATE !!

Starwise, aren't you one of the people who traverses the forum heaping praise after praise upon President Bush?  If you're not then I appologize, but this is precisely the thing that has cost us.

Bush, the Republican Congress, and John McCain are the very reason why we find ourselves in this mess.  Leftists want to vote for a leftist.  Reaching out to them doesn't work.  They don't want lefist light.  They want the real thing.  Who could have guessed?

Doughty One .. you cast a protest vote against McCain?  In the interest of accuracy, I did not vote for a presidential candidate this year.  It's the first time since 1972 that I haven't.  I told folks for eight years I would never vote for the likes of McCain.  I told folks last year during October, November, and December that I would never vote for the likes of McCain.  I told folks in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, and August of this year that I would never vote for the likes of McCain.  And evidently you just noticed.

How could you?? I thought you were one of us.  Well at the risk of upsetting you more, that could go two ways.  I consider myself to be a Conservative first, and a Republican a distant second.  If that's your postion, then I am one of you.

I’ll not make that mistake again.  Well, I tried to be up front with other forum participants.  I spent months explaining that I didn't think a leftist light could beat a full blown leftist.  Folks told me I was full of banther fodder.  Okay well, they got their way.  How did that work out?

What are you doing here?  I'm still asking folks to adopt conservative ideals, and push for them.  I'm certainly not here to back someone who was content to chum it up with George Soros, author global warming legistlation, author campaing finance legislation, author illegal alien amnesty bills, voice support for LOST and the ICC, heap praise on the Democrat party as a whole, and individual Democrats, or support all sorts of other leftist tripe.  I can't honestly see how this stance would bother you, but it obviously does.
