I was basically a young idealistic socialist when I voted for Carter. I was also an idiot. Carter disabused me of any socialist or liberal tendencies. I have never voted for a Democrat since Carter.

The real issue in the campaign is not the economy, it was the sanctity of life. I fear that a nation that does not respect the life of the unborn, will not respect the life of the born.

1 - it isn't over until the counting is done. Many conservative counties in Ohio haven't even reported yet. Though admittedly, the majority of the big blue cities have.

I do believe in having tests before one can vote and they cnanot be on the dole unless they are disabled or retired, although they still have to pass the test. I they have a disability like being blind or deaf, assistance will be provided to get past that or the test will be given in an alternate fashion for them. I remember having my IQ tested as a kid, I got 132 on the test system given to me. 132 and up is genius level, I just made it. Still, I think we need to have some cutoff point or criteria where the people need to know basic math, history, the English language and comprehension in such a test.

McCain, even if he picks up most of the ‘iffy’ states, would have to have a couple of major upsets (Washington state or Oregon or California) to win.

I agree, but it will not be easy. This country hasn't seen true conservative leadership for a long time, at least since Newt. Who can lead the GOP back to conservative principles? There are people out there that can do it, such as Gov. Palin, Rep. Mike Pence. We need someone who can communicate the conservative message and educate the American people about what we believe. I know it sounds like a cliche, but this is not a battle about the White House or congressional seats, this is a battle for the heart and soul of our country. We will not win by getting in peoples faces, but by presenting a positive vision for the future of America. This election is not a vote against conservatism, it is a vote against the status quo. America needs to know that conservatism represents change too. Change to a government that stays out of you way and allows you succeed on your own terms, a government that doesn't punish hard work, but rewards it and let's you keep the fruits of your labor. Right now, the old school leadership of the Republican Party is totally ineffective. It needs to be replaced with new leadeship that doesn't spout conservative principles every four years, but has them as their guiding principles. I apologize for the long winded post, but it sure made me feel better.
