Tim Robbins Faces Mix-Up at Polling Place By Nicholas Confessore AND Sewell Chan

The actor Tim Robbins, looked dejected and annoyed around 10:30 a.m., as he was sitting in a folding chair at the McBurney YMCA at 125 West 14th Street, one of the more than 1,300 polling places throughout New York City.

Mr. Robbins said that he had been surprised and dismayed to learn that he was not in the voter lists that are printed and bound before the election. “The issue is that they removed my name from the voting rolls,” he said. “My name was there for the primaries.”

Mr. Robbins expressed frustration. “The poll workers here know me,” he said. “I’ve been voting here 15 years.” He said the poll worker remembered seeing his name on the list during the primary.

Mr. Robbins, 50, is a New York City native and has voted at the same polling place since 1997. He and his longtime partner, the actress Susan Sarandon, have long been active in liberal causes and have urged voters to fight against disenfranchisement.

What happened to Mr. Robbins was similar to a scenario he described on an appearance on the HBO talk show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” on Oct. 24.

On that program, Mr. Robbins urged people to insist on their right to vote:

Refuse provisional ballots. They’re throwing those out. They can throw those out.

The dems are in charge in NYC and have been for many years. Take it up with them.

Where is my tiny violin? How will Obama carry NYC without the ‘Shawshank redeemer’?

The state probably believed Tim Robbins and his “partner” Susan Sarandon when they threatened to leave the country if Kerry lost in 2004 with the rest of the celebutards.

What a surprise that this would happen to the likes of this moron. Why do I doubt the veracity of this incident. Also, watched about an hour of CNN and heard non-stop about how historic this election was for Obama. No mention of Palin. Again, I am surprised.

Oh yeah, A NYC polling place was trying to disenfranchise Robbins. He must have left his Commie credentials at home.

An FYI for Timmy; calling over an officer is not intimidation. A big guy with a ball bat or those threatening murder as in Iraq; that, Mr. Metro-sexual, is intimidation.

TIm’s best acting in years......

And why is it that all these election problems only happen in the precincts where everything is run by, for and with the most liberal Americans available? They don’t happen in Montana or South Dakota or Oklahoma.

This cry baby probably thought a “star” didn’t have to register to vote. They are entitled to special treatment since they are a legend in their own minds.

Robbins, use your head. This makes no sense at all. Why would the NYC dems EVER want to eliminate anyone from the rolls? They want all the votes they can get.

Of course, there is that “major 4$$hole” removal clause they have...

Aw, Timmy, shut up and vote the provisional ballot! No one throws them out....unless you’re in a democrat stronghold in charge of them.

I had my polling place changed twice within the ten years I lived at the same address in Ohio.

I'm not sure if it was a change in what precincts were at what polling places, or if the precinct lines got changed twice.

I got switched to a different polling place for a few years, then switched back.

That's probably not what happened to him unless he didn't vote in the primary because I doubt such things would change between the primary and general elections. Though it is possible they moved locations in an attempt to spread out voters to multiple spot in places where they had too many voters going to a single polling place that couldn't handle the volume well.

Refuse provisional ballots. They’re throwing those out. They can throw those out.

That's extremely bad advice. If you vote on a provisional ballot your vote can still be counted if everything checks out. If you refuse a provisional ballot in such a circumstance, your other choice is to simply not vote.

If you're forced to vote on a provisional ballot and one or more of the races in the election is close it might be worth making sure your vote does get counted by contacting elections officials, but throwing a fit and refusing a provisional ballot is childish, pointless, and will likely just get you removed from the polling place.

Hey, he’s a lib, so he has his own method of adding and subtracting. Don’t be judgmental. Besides, maybe it depends on what the definition of “year” is.
