Yes I went and voted today. For the first time in my life, I voted for a straight republican ticket. On the way to the polls I kept asking myself if I could vote for Obama as I have always been a Democrat. Could I be loyal to the Democrat party. When I sat down and looked at that ballot, I realized that I had no choice but to vote for the republicans. After I turned in my ballot and left the polling place, I got sick at my stomach. I realized that I was no longer a Democrat but now a Republican. This goes against everything that I have stood for all my life. Yes today was the saddest day of my life. It was like leaving home for the 1st and last time, I cut the strings that attached me to the Democrat party. I am hoping for a McCain victory, but if it does not happen, then I am content with my decision. God Save America

I wish the Democrat party could be forced into truth in advertising and have to change their name to Socialist, Communist or Marxist party.
Zell Miller said it best:
“I was born a Democrat and I expect I’ll be a Democrat until the day I leave this earth. But I have grown mighty frustrated with the direction my party has taken over the last few years. National Democratic leaders today are moving further and further away from the principles that made our party great," Miller said, explaining why he has turned to Bush.
It is understandable when you realize it is a way of life. It is who you are...not simply party affiliation.
I’m now 32, I first voted for Clinton in 96 (I was too young in 92, but campaigned for everyone I knew of age to vote for him). I find that the older I get, the more conservative I get. I’ve always voted Democratic for President before this year, Gore happily, Kerry begrudgingly. I’m more of what I think most would call a moderate liberal. I don’t think that the Democratic party is what it once was and I’m not sure how to get it back there, in some ways, it’s gone too far left for me. But I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for Hillary. So my support for her is for her and not the Democratic Party. She could run as a Republican or Independent and I’d still vote for her.
I voted this morning and when I saw a Muslim name in the first place for president, I felt a chill run down my spine.
It was so out of place. It felt so wrong.
I should add though: If Bush was allowed to run for a third term and was running against Obama, I might have to move to Alaska and work with them to secede. :)
There are many old time denizens of this site who did the same thing. I'm glad we could stand together when we see a threat to our country.

When Hitler came to power he was able to do so because of the economic crisis in Germany.
He was a rousing, eloquent speaker.
He promised bread, circuses, and freebies to the citizenry.
He radicalized the Youth.
Do you see any parallels with Obama?
As a democrat with connections inside the campaign, I fully understand the tactics they are trying to use to dissuade you from voting.
I am trying to warn you of what will happen. Please take heed and do not give up, VOTE. Some of you may have decided not to vote, to vote third party, or maybe even vote for BO to “teach the GOP a lesson” for nominating someone that is not conservative enough for your tastes.
Please reconsider. Have you noticed how many democrats are voting for McCain and against BO?
When has that EVER happened before? Never.
We, the ones who have not sipped the Kool-Aid, know how dangerous he is.
Much like in Nazi Germany, it was the members of Hitler’s own party that knew what a monster he was and tried to overthrow him. This year it is the democrats that the DNC has purged that is ringing the warning bell.
Have you all seen the Black Panther intimidation in Philly? This is a TASTE of what the Hillary supporters had to face during the primaries.
Screaming “RASCISTS” in our face, intimidating us, telling us to go into the wrong room at the wrong time, using foul language....

I hope this person realizes that today they stood for America. Party didn't matter because he did what was best for his country. Freedom and liberty aren't guaranteed by a party name. It's guaranteed by the people who are willing to take the steps necessary to ensure it continues. He did that today by casting his vote for McCain-Palin.
I was a democrat for most of my adult life. As I became older, realized was much more conservative than had thought. By the time of Clinton’s second term in office, was no longer considering voting for a democrat ever again. I have not been disappointed with my decision.
I’m great. Voted a couple of weeks ago, so just keeping an eye on the race and posting.
Don’t worry, Ed. These are the first signs of withdrawal. It’s hell, but we’re here to get you through this. Just get a screenname and let us help.

Another recovering liberal
Many are voting more against obama more than for McCain.
His choice of Palin is what won me over. She’s got a good track record in Alaska.
I was an idealistic university student thinking that anything and anyone associated with the Kennedy's was great.
I went to a campus lecture by Theodore White and saw the crowd and what they stood for.
I suddenly realized that I loved the idealism of the Kennedys, but not the ideas. Never looked back.

I, too, was a lifelong Dem: cast my first vote for Carter, and my last Dem vote for Clinton. My first (R) vote was for Bush in 2000, and I don’t regret that decision a bit.
We are still classical liberals, and most of the people who think similarly vote Republican. The left has stolen the word “liberal.” I am a conservative/classical liberal, not a Republican. But I vote Republican, because that’s the only way I know that our liberties will be respected.

I can understand the reasoning.
For me, it's a matter of keeping obama out of office.
If the right candidate had run third party, that's likely how I would have voted, along with an awful lot of people I know.
