Fair & Balanced (Vanity)
FOX Network

Posted on 11/03/2008 4:06:02 PM PST by BornToBeAmerican

Brit Hume just indicated on FOX that FOX spent close to $150,000 more interviewing and traveling with Obama than McCain.

So I ask in all fairness? Who do you think they are in bed with?

Are you kidding? This is a drop in the bucket compared to spending. Period.

Welcome to Free Republic. You could have posted this inside an existing thread.

I had quit watching Brett Hume because of his obvious protectionism of B.Hussein Obama. I also believe that Oreilly must have promised B.Hussein Obama that he wouldn’t go negative on him if he came on his show. Oreilly does the same protectionism that Hume does. So much for fair and balanced. How about “No Fair and Unbalanced”.

Fox at least tries to be fair and balanced unlike all the other networks. I’ll be watching with them tomorrow night.

If you saw the broadcast then you were also shown that Fox more evenly spent than any of the other networks. (CBS was about 1.2 million obama to about 200 hundred thousand McCain.)

Reasons given were the longer dem primary season and the Europe trip.

If you don’t like Fox go back to your old haunts at cnn, and pmsnbc.

I agree. Fox has to maintain a semblance of fairness in coverage just to maintain its integrity in the business. MSNBC is an example of a network gone insane and most people are aware of it. Fox needs to appeal to more than just conservatives or it will be considered just a mouthpiece for one party which is wrong (not that I like Colmes). I think Fox still gives a feel of conservative favoritism as compared to other news networks. I watch the morning shows also and they are very good. As another poster mentioned here, CNN has improved to compete with Fox and it appears to be working because I have heard from many people that they actually enjoy watching CNN now as opposed to the past. The three other major news networks are trash and I never waste my time watching them. Just my 2 cents.

So I guess you missed the data that showed all the other networks were biased in their travel expenses toward the Obama camp by millions of dollars over the McCain camp.

Why did you just post the FNC number and not the dollar bias of the others?

You are correct;)

Fox is an oasis in the desert - at the very least they showed the figures and gave a reasonable explanation - coverage of the DEM primaries.

If Fox was biased in favor of the GOP it would lose viewers on both sides - we would be looking around for more information. Fair and balanced means unbiased.

I agree with you about Fox.
We have to remember, though, that they are journalists first, and they are bored with with the status quo - and that’s how they view a McCain administration.
OTH, a B. Hussein O. administration, now that’s new, interesting, and HISTORICAL - and they were there to report on it.

Did you consider how much they had to cover Obama during the primaries through that long hard fight between Obama and Hillary? Did you consider that Obama was doing a whole lot more after being nominated, spending money left and right while McCain because of his lack of money was doing less, which means less to report. You know people FOX is a NEWS channel, it is not a 24 hour conservative talk show with video. If you want ALL conservative talk, listen to Rush, Hannity etc. but understand they are not NEWS.

Also, we need to know what the other side is up to and what they are thinking/saying and I would surely rather get that information from FOX than, oh lets say MSNBC.

I would like to suggest that perhaps instead of bashing FOX all the time you could thank them for all they do right. What other Network would give Sean airtime? Only FoX. How about Huckabee? Only Fox. And Greta, she is a Democrat, but at least she is one that is fair.

/done rant

Same here - I just can't deal with the prospect of giddy anchors projecting The Big Zero as winner in state after state. Think I'll consume a couple of glasses of Pinot Grigio and watch my Celtic Thunder DVD with Mr. Inspectorette, all the while following the returns on FR.

"Me neither. Actually, I hate to say it - but CNN gives far better election coverage than FOX."

Really? Which reporter do you think does a better job (not including Lou Dobbs)? Who is your second favorite? What times do you usually watch?

"Their explanation was that they followed zero through the primaries and that's why they spent more on him."

And you find that questionable ... why? The dem primary grudge match went on many weeks longer than the pubs. Fox had several producers, cameramen and reporters traveling. Why do you think that $150k means that Fox is biased for Obama?

Heck no, I did not consider a lot of things.

I stepped where I should have stopped, oh well. I can make a mistake as good as any one.

Actually, I was pretty impressed with Fred Barnes tonight as well as Bill Krystol.

Lou Dobbs is great! I don’t have a “favorite” reporter on CNN - fact is, I don’t have a “favorite” reporter anywhere at all (considering I can’t stand 99% of them), but I have found myself turning to watch them during recent election coverages - mostly when Shepherd Smith makes me feel the urge to vomit with his drama queen whinings. The FOX “Allstars” have become so predictable, with their boring snobby-intellectual-inside-the-beltway punditry.

CNN doesn’t have quite the “dramatics” that FOX does. I prefer not having to see Shep’s mascara run when he cries.

Compared to CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC who spent 80% of their budget praising Obama and 20% criticizing McCain Fox is still fair and balanced.

Between Shep and the Allstars there is less than 2-1/2 hours out of a 24-hour news cycle, and the 2 hours that Shep has contain a bunch of reports, which probably leaves him on for an hour max.

Assuming that you are a McCain voter, that would leave you slightly less than indifferent to the reporting. I don't have a candidate in this race, so I might be a little less biased that you when it comes to the campaign reporting (I leave open the possibility that this is not true, but I doubt it).

I have tried to watch CNN lately and, particularly for the 3 or 4 hours that I had them on yesterday, I found them to tell every story shining the best possible light on Obama. Candy Crowley is so enamored with Obama that you can feel the love oozing from her sentences. That Lemon fella acts like he'd love to be Barack's younger bro. Lou Dobbs' show is about the only hour I've found that isn't practically an Obama informercial.

It is very interesting that you prefer the reporting of CNN. I was hoping that you could name a CNN reporter for me to keep an eye for the next day or reflect on the prior reporting I've seen them do, but I guess the favorable impression they've left with you is much weaker than the dislike you have with Shepherd Smith.

Lou Dobbs does seem to be coming to more of a conservative point of view on more than just the immigration issue, and I imagine that is due to his financial interests.

Roger Ailes, is that you? Hee hee hee.

I don’t understand how you “don’t have a candidate” in this race, yet you are so passionate about defending FOX.
