Romney says Obama is not a socialist
The Hill ^ | 03 Nov 2008 | Klaus Marre

Posted on 11/03/2008 1:10:38 PM PST by BGHater

While John McCain's campaign has tried to tie its Democratic rival to socialism, one of the Arizona Republican's top surrogates said Barack Obama is not a socialist.

McCain's campaign had seized on Sen. Obama’s statements that he plans to “spread the wealth around” and sought to tie the Illinois Democrat to socialism.

But former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), while arguing that Obama’s economic plan is a “job-killer,” said Monday on CBS’s “Early Show”: “You know, I don’t think Barack Obama’s a socialist. I think a lot of his policies are inspired by the pathway [that] Europe took. I think the idea of having the government take over healthcare and raise taxes on employers is the wrong direction for the country.”

Romney, who was the GOP surrogate tasked with appearing on all of the morning talk shows, also said both candidates are “terrific men,” when asked if the country would be in good hands if the Democrat is elected.

“I’ll be very concerned about the economy for the country. I’ll be concerned that the economy will be in a slow-down or a recession for a longer, deeper period,” Romney stated. “I'll be concerned about long term, about a president who would raise taxes on businesses and, if you will, through this intimidation, impose unions on small businesses.”

I guess socialist Mitt would not recognize socialist Obama.

Oh, and did I mention both of them seem to believe they will be Gods someday.

Under the United Order the members (Saints) give their "excess". IOW, they provide for their family thus fulfilling Timothy's admonition as well as the practice in Acts.

Anytime a parishoner gives an offering "in excess" of their normal use (ie providing for their family) to their church for the sustenance of the poor, it is not socialism. This is not just Mornmons. A Baptist who donates time or money to their church's food bank is practicing the same biblical law. What is interesting is that just because mormons practice it as well some are willing to criticize them for it, even though it is in the Bible and practiced by many churches today.

Then of course there is the example of the widow and the prophet Elijah in the OT or the widow's mite from the NT. But that is another discussion.

Thanks, TAdams - I know tempers are getting frayed about now... this is a truly historical election and the possibility of Obama getting elected is a downright horror movie.

I certainly wouldn’t expect or want any public person to say what I wrote about Obama! But saying he’s terrific or “not a socialist” is, to me, wrong. A statesman (that includes stateswoman) can “say” stuff in a polite and socially acceptable way, still making the point. That’s one reason why I have never been elected to anything...

I think there are many upheavels ahead, but I hope trying to pull together after an Obama win is not one of them. What I hope is that after he loses, more of the truth about him hits the MSM or at least more public notice, and the general public wakes up to real conseravtive values (more). Of course the diehard leftists won’t change.

>>>>I never did post an anti-Palin cartoon, did I? You are a liar.

Re: post 181. I never claimed you posted the actual cartoon. I said in post 181 you posted the Anti-Palin cartoonist. In your zeal to bash Romney you were posting David Horsey from Seattle. I asked the question why you were posting cartoons from someone who that same week had published anti-Palin cartoons. You were also quoting Dick Morris and I called you on it. If what you say is even close to the truth why are your sources liberal? Even your source from the "conserevative" American Spectator turned out to be wrong as they were quoting CNN on the anti-Palin rumor. That's what a "conservative" paper gets for trusting CNN. Of course they turned out to be wrong.

Here is you pushing the liberal anti-Palin cartoonist wasting the bandwidth of FR and trying to divide the base according to the MSM's wishes.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2118431/posts?page=202#202

Here is me calling you on it. www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2118431/posts?page=227#227

It's why you are consistently wrong on Romney. When your posts on Romney match Dick Morris' (post 30 on the same thread linked above you quote him directly) and Barney Frank's it's time to step away from the keyboard and do whatever it is you need to do to find your conservative center again, Meditation, Hunting, Pilates

"The real Romney is clearly an extraordinarily ambitious man with no perceivable political principle whatsover. He is the most intellectually dishonest human being in the history of politics."

>>>>You also lie about the alleged “rumors” which have been confirmed by papers, periodicals, reporters, TV networks, and people, who all show that you and Romney are are a danger to conservatives and America.

The first step is recognizing your denial. The reason you are wrong on Romney is that your sources are the liberal MSM.

I provided the actual names of the sources of the "rumors". Nicolle Wallace a former Bush aide. Then there was Mike Murhpy a former McCain aide. How is it lying to provide the real names, not the CNN talking points. You sound just like Lib when they lose a debate point.

If Romney is really a danger to conservatives and America why are you taking all your talking points from the liberals you supposedly are fighting against? Why are you feeding into the MSM's attempts to divide the base on the eve of the election?

I'm voting for Palin tommorrow. I voted for Romney in the primary (even though he had dropped out before my state had voted when I went in his name was still on the ballot). All your paranoia about former Romney supporters is just that. They will vote McCain/Palin in larger margins than just about any other group.

Alaska voted for Romney in the primary and they have given us Gov. Sarah Palin. They are doubly blessed up in the North. Perhaps a little vacation up there will clear your senses and curtial your disposition to keep wasting FR badmwidth with liberal talking points.

The trouble with your lies and revisionism is that they are false, like your master's "conservatism". He is not.

Myth Romney let it slide. Then they died.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ROMNEY AND HIS JUDGES

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."
- Boston Globe 7/25/2005

and this

"Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys. He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>

and then this.....

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!
Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.

I'll trust this guys opinion on Romney over yours. He has never quoted Dick Morris or anti Palin Cartoon-ISTS. Here's his unedited read on Romney and Ronaldus Maximus.

Some Republicans insist that the only perfect candidate would be a clone of my Dad, Ronald Reagan. Aside from the fact that there is no such thing, it’s important to recognize that Ronald Reagan, as he often admitted, was anything but perfect.

One of the criticisms about former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney focuses on his record concerning the abortion issue. We are told by the modern day Diogenes clones that he can’t be trusted to fight abortion because he once, more or less, supported a woman’s right to butcher her baby.

It may come as a surprise to these purists, but Ronald Reagan once supported abortion too. Yet nobody ever questioned his strong pro-life credentials after his conversion to Republicanism. They accepted his sincerity. Why can’t they accept Mitt Romney’s?

Romney’s record shows he should be totally acceptable to all conservatives, yet because of one dubious question concerning the validity of his conversion to the pro-life side, he is deemed unsuitable to carry the conservative banner.

Well, Mr. Romney, you will NEVER get my vote for anything in the future.

You sold out the country, denying the obvious. Why? Obama is a socialist and a deceiver. You, Mr. Romney, should be astute enough to determine when someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Either you can’t see it, and you are unfit to serve in any capacity. Or you can see it, and for your own purposes are denying it anyway, in which case you are DEFINITELY not fit to serve in any capacity.

Crawl back into your cave. May we never hear from you again.

Barney's take on Romney matches your posts. Apparently you are the one who has been comparing notes with him lately?

Well its been fun. I'm going to bed, gotta get up and vote Palin tommorrow. See what else you can dredge up from the liberal MSM to try and divide the GOP base before tommorrow.

Get off of your LSD (or is it IV now?).

No one (except his RomneyBOTs, servants, and slaves)
believes Romney. He directed attacks on Gov. Palin
and Sen. McCain unto the very day of the 2008 election.

Once again, you —Rameumptom— prove to be a disgusting
stinking, worthless, venal liar.

You falsely claim, that I purported Romney cannot be
“trusted to fight abortion because he once, more or less, supported a woman’s right to butcher her baby.”

Where was that, Rameumpton?
Like Romney, you have shown yourself to be lower than a snake (and I apologize to snakes).

Thanks for the clarification, Ramey! : )

Bravo, what an excellent post. You are such a good poster.

It would seem with their support of Romney in the primaries and their election of Sarah Palin as Governor, Alaskans know decent, talented politicians when they see them, as do Romney supporters, most of whom love Governor Sarah Palin and like you and myself, will gladly vote for the McCain/Palin ticket tomorrow.

So, so unfair. You are just like the democrats/Liberals and the MSM. You treat Romney, the way they treat Palin. Between, both entities, two of the best politicians to come along in a good while, will be destroyed and neither will receive the Republican nomination, in 2012 or 2016 whenever that may be. Kudos. /sarc

Well, then don't vote for McCain/Palin tomorrow because at the directive of the McCain campaign, both of them said the same thing. They will not call Obama a socialist.
