Hundreds of Mid-Missourians braved traffic and parking issues Saturday for tickets to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's Monday campaign stop in Jefferson City, now set to include a performance by country singer Hank Williams Jr.
Palin is scheduled to appear at 11 a.m. Monday, rain or shine, on the Capitol's south lawn. Admission for the event will open at 8 a.m.
About 3,500 free tickets became available Saturday morning and may be picked up through 9 p.m. Sunday or until they are gone at 2015 Missouri Blvd. A total of 10,000 tickets were being distributed at Victory 2008 or GOP headquarters in Cole, Camden, Callaway, Boone, Randolph and Audrain counties.
The timing of Palin's visit should pump up Republicans in Mid-Missouri, said Paul Sloca, a GOP political operative.
Tickets, while they last, can be picked up at the following locations from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday:
* Missouri Victory Headquarters, 2015 Missouri Blvd., Jefferson City, (632-2828). * Camden County GOP Headquarters, 4091 U.S. 54, Suite 100, Osage Beach, (302-0510). * Callaway County GOP Headquarters, Court and Fifth streets, Fulton. * Columbia Victory Office, 1301 Vandiver, Suite P, Columbia, (418-8037). * Randolph County Republican Headquarters, 320 West Reed St., Moberly (660-269-9240). * Audrain County GOP Office, 734 Monroe St., Mexico.
Campaign officials ask attendees to treat coming to the rally like going through airport security; therefore, bring as few items as possible to get through quicker.
They advise:
* Leave any signs at home - even McCain/Palin signs * No outside food or beverages * No umbrellas, bags, backpacks or weapons of any type * Cameras are allowed.
Parking will be available at the 63 Sports Complex in north Jefferson City (north of the Missouri River bridges). Shuttle service will be provided. The complex can be reached by exiting from U.S. 54/63 on Route W (Airport Road) and heading west (a left turn at the end of either exit ramp).
Police are advising motorists who are driving into downtown for whatever reason to carpool or get there early.
Every (parking) space in town may be filled, said JCPD Capt. Michael Smith. Carpooling would take care of a lot.
High Street between Broadway and Jefferson Street will be reduced to one-lane traffic, eastbound only, for the event. Other streets will be closed temporarily to allow for the motorcade.
Not a big country music fan, but I love me some Hank Jr.
Wife and I will be there!!
If I lived there I would be there hell or high water. Go Sarah and Hank.
Well hell, bring Hank Jr. to Dubuque too!
Think we already have most of the country-music-lovin’ fans voting for Sarah/McCain. I would have preferred they bring another singer on.
Martina, though, would have been good. She appeals pretty much to everyone. But can’t they find some conservative pop/rock singers to appear? I like country, but hey, not everyone does. Let’s reach out for some of those “independent” voters who can’t stand country music.
Like THIS dude?
Fox cut him off and say they will come back when Sarah takes the podium.
If they do or not is up for grabs.
It can be seen on Live Feed though.
Bump for live feed if you can’t get it on Fox. See Post 10 for link
Bump
Maybe that one is not so independent. I meant the real independent voters, if there are any left at this point.
