These comments were in an interview with the editorial board of the SF Chronicle. Best I’ve been able to cull out, the Chron put the audio on their website. But their coverage in the paper did not include the explosive statements on coal and skyrocketing energy prices.
So the tape was there all along. I guess the oppor researchers (if there ARE any in the McCain camp) assumed the audio simply reflected what the paper wrote. Turns out there was a lot more there.

My sister-in-law’s husband is bossing a crew installing new scrubbers at a coal plant.
They need to put out coal ads tomorrow! Hannity and foxnews isn’t enough. The media won’t report it. GOPtrust or anybody needs to put out the ads all over the place nonstop tomorrow!

Hopefully GOPTrust will pick this up and start running sommething tomorrow. I don’t know how far McCain/Palin will take it and how much money they have to run an ad.
It wasn't missed - just saved for the right time.
The DBM could have diffused all this months ago if they had done their job. They could have reported it in a favorable light to Obama and given him every chance to respond. But they didn't.
So now they're having to deal with in on McCain/Palin's terms, not their own.

But for obama, CO2 is a pollutant, so he would only be in favor of coal technology that let no CO2 escape.
