Circuit City Closing 155 Stores
Dealer Scope ^ | Nov 3, 2008 | Stephen Silver

Circuit City plans to move ahead with closures of 155 stores, the Web site Consumerist.com reported Sunday, citing company sources. In addition, the troubled retail giant will withdraw from 12 U.S. markets.

According to a letter obtained by the site, some employees have been told they will be let go Dec. 31. In addition, employees told the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper that the company would announce Monday which stores will close.

The store closings plan, then in the planning stages, was first reported last month by the Wall Street Journal.

Thank GOD! Things are looking up for America already. I have never experienced such HORRENDOUS “service” in my life!

After four year of Obamanomics, I doubt that Circuit City will still be in business.

Around 5 years ago they seemed to have good customer service. What happened?

That’s about par for a retail electronics chain, they seem to go out of business on a regular basis just to have someone else take their place.

In the past, I’ve seen the falling away of Sun TV, Silo, Kelly and Cohen, The Appliance Store, Service Merchandise.

There is something about that line of business.

That’s true. The bad part there will be less competition to Best Buy and seriously, BB sucks on occassions. The last time I went to CC was a month ago and the employees look down.

On the other hand, Best Buy employees seem to don’t give a damn about you, like you should be thankful for shopping there. There’s a bad and good to everything.

Must be an area thing—I haven’t seen them come close to BB on average in over 3 years. Neither are nearly as good as online websites such as newegg or tigerdirect.

Circuit City deserves to fail. They pay on commission, then fire the highest earning salespeople (i.e. their most successful salesmen).

I have walked in them ... and walked right back out ... I hate being accosted by a sales person. I felt like I was in a local furniture store!

Good riddance. Poorest customer service I’ve ever seen — not to mention having to continually swat off the sales staff; nastier than mosquitoes.

Yup—new ceo came in and pulled that crap about 1 year ago. Look where they are now. They’ll be BKRUPT within 6 months (probably less). Already a penny stock at 26cents/share.

This is entirely predictable. Four or five years ago, Circuit City announced that they were immediately firing all their top salespeople because they were making too much money. Yeah yeah, I know that sounds too STOOPID to be true, but it is true. Look it up. Their plan was to replace all their most knowledgeable people with minimum wagers. No, I’m still not kidding.

Ditto!

Circuit City is an example of a company that has no involvement whatsoever with “customer service”.

Every time I've gone to look for something their staff is clueless.

Best Buy has better service, better products and more knowledgeable personnel in every department.

I am surprised that CC has lasted this long!

From what I have heard, a few years ago management fired their best sales people because they were making too much money. So I guess they hire inexperienced people and fire them once they get enough experience to ask for a raise. I imagine no one is motivated to work hard if they will only be punished for it. Stupid, stupid management.
