The only truly experienced leader in this race -- the gentleman whose resume actually is worthy of the phrase -- is John McCain, 72, war hero, former congressman and longtime U.S. senator of Arizona.
We first endorsed Mr. McCain for president in February, long before we knew Sen. Obama would be the Democrat nominee. But our words then are even more apropos now.

Yes...I have been waiting on the Tribune. I live in PA for several years, one of those clinging to their guns and religion types and according to Murtha a racist redneck. What a bum. It is republican territory and had elected Tom Ridge as Gov when I lived there so this endorsement is important.
That’s good. Their owner Dick Scaife went to the dark side and endorsed obama. Thought all media here was lost.
The Trib wanted to withdraw from Iraq a few years ago when things got tough.

The Trib has influence in the Westmoreland CO. area, which is critical for McCain. BTW the Trib endorsed Murtha last week.

Nicely written piece. I agree with it but it is also a great example of good, clear writing.
Their gripe with Murphy was that he has become 'insufficiently conservative', a problem which will apparently be solved by sending another loony lib to Congress in Murphy's place.
The Tribune-Review is to the Pittsburgh media what Fox News is to the MSM: an outlet that only appears to lean "right" when compared to the radical left media that dominates elsewhere. They are hardly "conservative" anymore, though perhaps they were at one time (a description that fits both Fox News and the Trib).
The liberal shitrag in this area, the Post-Gazette, is somewhere to the left of Pravda or the Daily Worker.
